Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards was a guest on Netflix’s Chelsea in the episode titled “Changing the Climate” which aired on June 1, 2017. Following liberal activist comedienne Sarah Silverman - who talked of raising money for women to get transportation to appointments at Planned Parenthood facilities in Texas - both women exaggerated their arguments in support of government funding for the abortion provider. During her interview, Silverman claimed, for instance, that Texas has only five facilities providing abortions, “probably less.” Wrong.
Handler, wearing her Resist t-shirt - natch, congratulated Richards on Planned Parenthood’s 100th anniversary. That’s 100 years of ending innocent lives of the unborn, but never mind. Richards declared that the Trump administration is “the worst administration for women we’ve ever seen. Women are a pre-existing condition.”
She once again acted as if federally defunding Planned Parenthood would eliminate all the services they provide for women besides abortion (as if money isn't fungible), but didn't talk about how when President Trump offered to fully fund them if they stopped performing abortions they said no. Richards also tried to claim credit for the decrease in teen pregnancies, but somehow forgot to mention that Planned Parenthood just performed a record number of abortions, while seeing fewer patients.
But the main complaint was Republican attempts to revise ObamaCare. Chelsea dramatically said that there will be “no access to birth control and if you get pregnant, no access to handling your pregnancy.” I guess “handling” is code for destroying these days. Now it makes sense that she had earlier said, “In my America, we’d put birth control in our water supply. A glass of water a day keeps the baby away.”
Richards said she talked to Ivanka Trump about the health care bill, “but so far, the White House has been a total zero on women and women’s health, and I think Ivanka’s job now is that she’s in charge of all women’s issues, so this would be the time to step up.” Not able to let that comment go without a slam to Ivanka, Chelsea said, “She’s just another puppet circling around him [Trump]... I know all women feel this way about Ivanka right now – but I'm like, you know, 'You need to tell that fucking asshole that this is an unacceptable way to treat women!'”
Her generalization of all women is way off base here. I don’t think the Trump voters have the same opinion and many of them are women. You’ll note that her foul language indicates Chelsea wasn’t a student of Dale Carnegie’s lessons on the art of persuasion. Silverman mentioned that Ivanka follows her on Twitter so she direct messaged Ivanka to tell her that “This is your chance. You are writing your life story here.”
Later, Chelsea interviewed liberal Senator Al Franken (D-MN) who is promoting his new book Giant of the Senate. Now, that’s funny. He considers Senator Lindsay Graham (R-SC) “the funniest Republican” and Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) is the only senator he has nothing nice to say about, except, “I kind of said I like him more than most of my colleagues like him - and I hate him. But the reason I like him a little more is that he actually has a sense of humor. It’s not good. It’s not bad. It’s a little lame.” Classy, Al.
Franken encouraged the viewers to get involved with the resistance to the health care bill and the Paris Accord withdrawal: “Go to your Republican House members who voted for this atrocity, and don’t yell at them, just ask them hostile questions.” Hostile questions? Yeah, that’s the ticket.
The best part was at the end of the show, while interviewing actor Thomas Middleditch the topic was climate change and Chelsea unwittingly showed there's no case for the U.S. to stay in the Paris Accord Agreement – as the discussion came around to the fact that the agreement is non-binding and most countries aren’t living up to it, the only argument Chelsea could come up with was “Pulling out of the agreement is just mean.” Very convincing. Like most bleeding heart liberals, Handler puts feelings over facts. No wonder she keeps talking about being scared.
