Masters Now In Left’s Crosshairs After Georgia’s New Election Integrity Law

The Masters's clubhouseGeorgia Gov. Brian Kemp accurately predicted the new voting bill he signed into law Thursday would draw detractors. They “will threaten, boycott, sue, demonize and team up with their friends in the national media to call me everything in the book," he said.

Opponents of House Bill 202 chose to call for the PGA to take the Masters golf tournament away and for Major League Baseball to remove its All-Star Game from Georgia, according to Newsweek’s Scott McDonald.

The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) wants the PGA to take its golf clubs and go to another state. It is demanding the removal of the Masters Tournament from Augusta National Golf Club. The NBJC also pressured golfers to not play in golf’s most prestigious event, scheduled for April 8-11. Augusta has hosted the Masters since 1934.

David J. Johns, the NBJC executive director, told Golfweek that Georgia’s new laws aimed at assuring election integrity will severely damage civil rights:

“Georgia’s new law restricting voting access is designed to turn back the clock on civil rights, and return Black and poor and already disenfranchised voters in Georgia to second class citizens. This is an unacceptable attack on our democracy and companies that operate in Georgia must speak out against this restrictive law.

"The PGA Tour and Masters Tournament have both made commitments to help diversify golf and address racial inequities in this country — and we expect them to not only speak out against Georgia’s new racist voter suppression law — but to also take action.”

Johns also said the State of Georgia needs to pay a steep price for intruding on wide-open voting practices. "Professional golf should not reward Georgia’s attacks on democracy and voting rights with the millions of dollars in revenue that the tournament generates and the prestige it brings to the state.”

The Left has learned in the past that if it can’t win legislatively, it can coerce sports organizations to threaten conservative states with the loss of sports events when they pass laws it doesn’t like. Fascism at its best; just punish those who disagree with you. Georgia businesses will lose tons of money if the Masters and the all-star game are moved out of state. If those on the Left had their way, no major sports events would be held in conservative states at all.

Let’s see: what else can the fascists take away from Georgia? The Atlanta Hawks, Falcons and Braves could all be sent out of state as further punishment. Why should the state benefit financially for enacting an election integrity law?

Former President Donald Trump is standing with Georgia. "They learned from the travesty of the 2020 Presidential Election, which can never be allowed to happen again. Too bad these changes could not have been done sooner," he said after Gov. Kemp signed the election bill into law.

The Georgia law provided President Joe Biden with a much-needed diversion from the out-of-control border invasion. He called it 21st century Jim Crow and un-American.

Once again, Georgia will try to stop the steal. Only this time it’s a matter of preventing the Left from stealing showcase sports events.
