Loony Leftists Olbermann, Popovich Attack Texas No-Mask Policy

Exit President Trump, enter Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX). The Texas governor is now the new favorite political target of outspoken San Antonio Spurs coach Greg Popovich and former ESPN resident cuckoo Keith Olbermann. Both lefties attacked Abbott for lifting the state’s mask mandate on Tuesday.

COVID-19 hospitalizations in Texas plummeted 28 percent in the last two weeks, but left-stream media and Popovich are freaking out about Gov. Abbott ending mask requirements.

Yahoo! sportswriter Ryan Young wrote that Gov. Abbott ended the Texas mask mandate “despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich isn’t happy about it."

Masked man Popovich (seen in above photo) has a history of attacking the former president over politics, and he’s now turning his wrath on the Texas governor, venting that “getting rid of masks just seems ignorant to me. … ” He further stated:

So now there will be more infections, one would think. But when all of a sudden we act like it’s over with, and all of the science tells us the opposite, you’re basically saying, “You get infected and you die? That’s the way it goes. We gotta open up!” That’s not the way to do it. This is really ridiculous.

While Popovich is running off his mouth about “science,” infections are not even close to automatic death sentences. The Heritage Foundation shot holes in the death mania being pushed by Popovich, reporting that, through February 17, “93 percent of COVID-19 deaths nationwide have occurred among those ages 55 or older. Only 0.2 percent were younger than 25.” In Texas, the vast majority of COVID-19 deaths occurred among people 65 or older.

Popovich continued to blow a gasket: “We have to have instant gratification and act like the pandemic is over? We already went through this once, and now we're going to do it again? When you go into those restaurants, you take your masks off anyway when you’re eating. So how hard can it be? …”

Olbermann took things a step further, charging that, with no mask mandate, Texas is on the side of evil and – playing God -- doesn’t deserve to have access to vaccines. He tweeted:

Young’s story said, “Though new case numbers are declining nationally, the pandemic is far from over — and Texas is among the slowest states in the country to administer the vaccine.”

Deadspin writer Dustin Foote said Popovich railed about America being at a point in the COVID recovery where we can see the end zone and the open field … but there’s still time to Leon Lett this thing.” Lett was a defensive lineman for the Dallas Cowboys who carelessly let a sure touchdown get away from him in the 1993 Super Bowl. Foote is suggesting Texas is the 2021 version of Lett.

Later this month, Texas will host NCAA women’s basketball tournament games and men’s National Invitation Tournament basketball games. Foote warned that holding these events without a mask requirement in place has the “potential to be actual March ‘madness.’ ”
