From the free-speech-if-you-agree-with-us files: Pagans and homosexuals are allowed to have their opinions on what defines marriage, but Christians and pastors are not. That's the message from a badly imbalanced Fox Sports story in which retired Australian tennis legend Margaret Court is harpooned for stating she opposes same-sex marriage.
Court, 74, has won more grand slam tennis titles than anyone on Planet Earth, but for the audacity of writing a letter to the editor stating she will boycott Quantas Airlines because it supports same-sex marriage, she is taken to the woodshed in the Fox story.
And not only does the Fox report gang up on Court, but it lends weight to another retired tennis great, Martina Navratilova's call for Margaret Court Arena to be renamed!
Why is it that a person can oppose left-wing policies on most controversial issues without such outrageous demands as this? Because the homosexual fascists want to destroy anyone who won't agree with their politically correct stamp of approval. Enabling them are the true "homophobics" -- corporations like Quantas and others who are afraid of getting the same treatment Court is receiving and who jump when the LGBT activists say "jump."
The West Australian newspaper published a letter to the editor by Pastor Court in which she writes:
“I am disappointed that Qantas has become an active promoter for same sex marriage.
“I believe in marriage as a union between a man and a woman as stated in the Bible.
“Your statement leaves me no option but to use other airlines were possible for my extensive travelling.”
“I love all people and will be pleased to talk to your board at any time.
“But it won’t be in the Qantas lounge.”
You'd have thought she committed a heinous crime. Fox gave platform to seven people, a tennis organization and the arena named after Court to voice their disapproval of the icon's letter. And some were pretty insulting, too.
Navratilova, who along with Billie Jean King, has long opposed Court's Christian beliefs, Tweeted: “Maybe it’s time to change of the Margaret Court Arena then" and “Margaret — you have gone too far. Shame on you ... #wrongsideofhistory.”
Wrong side of history? Only a tiny slice of it. Same-sex marriage wasn't legalized anywhere before the 21st century. Even the liberal European Court of Human Rights rejected SSM. Here in the U.S. the overwhelming majority of states enacted constitutional protections for one-man/one-woman marriage until activist courts disenfranchised their votes.
Australia's Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull was also asked to weigh in on this issue. He merely said Court "is one of the all-time greats and the arena celebrates that." This was as close as the Fox report came to any semblance of balance in reporting. The rest of the story was spent on giving voice to people to attacking Court.
Tennis pro Darcy Vescio piled on with this Tweet: "It's time Margaret Court up with the times. Imagine if only mixed doubles partners could win grand slams...You'd be outraged. #loveislove" Homosexual tennis pro caseydellacqua Tweeted: "Margaret. Enough is enough."
Additonal Tweeters said: "Maybe it's time to change the name of the Margaret Court Arena then... and I guess Margaret will be taking the boat on her next trip?:)" and "Always knew she was like this, but now she has really gone too far. Don't think she'll be flying on many Airlines at all." Also: "thank you Qantas for your support. And Margaret - you have gone too far. Shame on you...#wrongsideofhistory."
One man called for the arena to be renamed after another Aussie tennis star of the past: Evonne Goolagong Cawley.
According to Fox, "Tennis Australia later released a statement distancing itself from Court’s views." Margaret Court Arena also issued a statement in opposition to its namesake.
As if anyone cared about American singer Ryan Adams' support for same-sex marriage, he Tweeted this message just prior to performing in the Margaret Court Arena: “Hey Margaret Court, a PAGAN who STRONGLY SUPPORTS marriage equality (get a prenup tho) will play the arena named for you tomorrow.” So pagans can weigh in on marriage, but you Christians just keep your mouths shut.
In this shoddy excuse for "journalism," Fox only presented one side of the issue and made little to no effort whatsoever to find any support for Court.
