The Obama media empire continues to gain new ground.
In addition to carving out a piece of the Netflix pie, acquiring a hosting gig on PBS Kids, and selling millions and millions of books about her life, Michelle Obama is now getting her very own podcast via the music streaming platform Spotify.
Someday we’ll be telling our grandchildren how lucky we were to be living in the same time as Michelle Obama, we’re sure of it.
Hollywood outlet Deadline broke the yuge news that the former First Lady to former President Barack Obama will be the star of a brand new podcast called “The Michelle Obama Podcast.” The new audio will premiere July 29 and will feature “candid and personal conversations from the former First Lady.”
Wow, sounds super exciting. The teaser for Michelle O’s new show dropped on the streaming platform on July 16. It opens with peppy Stevie Wonder-esque keyboard music, and a greeting from an upbeat Mrs. Obama. “Hey everyone, I just wanted to talk to you real quick about something I’ve been working on lately. It’s called the Michelle Obama Podcast and I can’t wait for you to listen,” the former First Lady said.
She described her show as such: “My hope is that this podcast can be a place for us to explore big topics together, a place to sort through the questions that we’re all trying to answer, a place to open up and be a little vulnerable and have some fun along the way.”
Wow, we’re about as excited as an elementary school kid who’s been told that he gets apple slices in his lunch instead of a cookie because of a Michelle Obama school lunch initiative.
Though Michelle Obama clarified that her show isn’t going to be all fun and games, it will get political. She mentioned that early conversational topics will include the “global pandemic” and “a nationwide reckoning with race,” or, you know, “just any old summer afternoon with our own thoughts.” Ah, yeah, sounds like we’ll be getting a lecture on wearing masks at all times of the day (for safety, of course) or be kindly goaded into accepting Marxist Black Lives Matter tenets by the sweet, soothing and down-to-earth tone of everyone’s favorite First Lady. Gag us.
Deadline also mentioned that Mrs. Obama’s first guests will include former Obama White House Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and late night host Conan O’Brien. It also listed the show’s season one advertisers, which include Salesforce, and Procter & Gamble brands Tide and Dawn
The podcast is being put together by Higher Ground Productions, the former first family’s ambitious film and streaming series company that produced an Academy Award-winning documentary film for Netflix called “American Factory.” Mrs. Obama’s other showbiz endeavors include her best-selling 2018 memoir, Becoming, which has been turned into a Netflix documentary by the same name, and her stint as host of a PBS Kids reading hour.
