Last night, the 74th Emmy Awards on NBC, hosted by Kenan Thompson, honored talentless hacks like John Oliver while snubbing some of the most successful non-woke entertainers of the past year.
The hyper-partisan Oliver won for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series and Outstanding Variety Talk Series. His show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, has a long history of trashing conservatives as "racist" and "evil."
The other late-night hosts nominated in the Outstanding Variety Talk Series category were also unfunny left-wing "comedians" with declining ratings: Trevor Noah, Seth Meyers, Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Kimmel. Notably absent from the list of nominees was the man whose late-night talk show ratings beats them all, Fox New's Greg Gutfeld.
At least the audience watching the ceremony didn't have to suffer through an appearance by Samantha Bee. She won an Emmy at a pre-recorded ceremony earlier in the month for best "Short form nonfiction or Reality Series." How the Emmy's could find anything award-worthy in Bee's cancelled show Full Frontal With Samantha Bee is mind-boggling.
Honoring the unfunny continued throughout the night with an award to Saturday Night Live (SNL) for best variety sketch show. Upon receiving the award, SNL creator Lorne Michaels whined about how hard it was for his team to do their show during COVID. He never mentioned that SNL paid audience members in order to get around New York State's COVID regulations, a luxury others could not afford. With SNL's ratings in freefall, Michaels might soon have to pay people just to watch the show at all.
MICHAELS: Well, thank you very much for this. I don't know whether you had it here, but in New York for the last 2 1/2 years we had this pandemic it was really tough doing shows. And lots of people who could have left didn't and kind of stuck together and went through it together and there's something in the DNA of the show, when it's 11:30 on Saturday, we show up. And I want to thank them all for showing up and for standing here tonight.
In addition to awarding woke comedians, the ceremony honored actress and activist Geena Davis with the 2022 Governor's Award for her work founding the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media. Davis founded the institute over her concerns about how "women" were represented in television and film. But now Hollywood doesn't even know what a woman is, so one might wonder why she won the award.
The Emmy's spurned some notable favorites this year. The television academy once again shut-out the acclaimed unwoke series Yellowstone from any nominations whatsoever. And Ricky Gervais' anti-woke comedy special SuperNature was completely ignored, although, fellow anti-woke comedian Dave Chappelle did get nominations despite left-wing backlash against his Netflix special, The Closer.
Hollywood couldn't resist attacking former President Donald Trump during the ceremony, with multiple celebrities mocking the despicable FBI raid against his Mar-a-Lago home.
In the end, the Emmy's were just another awards show that rejected content outside Hollywood's left-wing political bubble, made zero jokes about the current Biden administration and predictably attacked Trump. Only one winner, Squid Games' Lee Jung Jae, even thanked God, something that used to be a regular occurrence at awards shows.
While Kenan Thompson was a likable enough host for the ceremony, this year's Emmy's proved to be the latest example of Hollywood's inexorable decline.
