Well, we can’t say they didn’t warn us! Now that television shows are returning from hiatus for the fall season, pro-abortion propaganda is coming back, too - albeit with renewed fervor since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Case in point, ABC’s Grey's Anatomy spinoff Station 19, which claimed “women’s bodies are held hostage by the government.”
On Thursday’s episode “Everybody's Got Something to Hide Except Me and My Monkey,” Dr. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato) is feeling moody and takes it out on everyone around her, including her friend and patient Jack (Grey Damon) who is in the ER for injuries he sustained during a tornado. Jack was supposed to be a sperm donor for Carina and her wife Maya (Danielle Savre), but he let them down when he skipped town and ghosted them.
Jack assumes Carina’s anger is over his choice to break his promise, but she assures him there are “mountains of sperm for sale,” so they “have all the sperm (they) need.” She then says the reason she’s so angry is because “women’s bodies are held hostage by the government":
Intern: Yeah, we're gonna need an X-ray.
Carina: Why are you looking at me?! Go order it!
Woman on P.A.: Dr. Stanson, please dial 378. Dr. Stanson, 378.
Jack: I'm pretty sure they call that a hostile work environment.
Carina: That's how interns learn. We scare them, okay?
Jack: Okay. Yeah. Okay. I keep telling people that I'm meaner because of the hormones, and that's part of it, but it's because -- I left, and you guys had to pivot.
Carina: Oh, my God, Jack, no! That has literally nothing to do with you. There are mountains of sperm for sale in the world. We have all the sperm we need.
Jack: Okay, yeah. No, you're right. Not about me. I got it.
Carina: It's just because I'm so angry. I'm angry at my wife and at the world, and anger is like a poison that comes out as meanness, and -- I used to wear pink scrubs because work was my happy place, full of happy people, bringing in new life, and...now we're wearing black scrubs, in protest, because women's bodies are held hostage by the government. And...I literally have no happy place left. Yeah. This keeps happening. It's the hormones.
Jack: Carina, are you pregnant now?
Carina: No. May-- I don't know.
Intern: Okay, I'm gonna need to take you to imaging.
Carina: What's the wheelchair for? He can walk!
Jack: She's not usually this angry.
Carina: Do you even know where imaging is?
Intern: That was gonna be my next quest—
Carina: Oh, my God. I'll take him. You go -learn stuff. You, come on, move. You can walk, go.
Jack: Okay.
Carina: Come on!
Jack: Oh, my gosh, all right. I'm coming. Wow.
The writers of this show apparently don’t realize that overturning Roe didn’t make abortion illegal. It merely turned the issue back over to the states where the decision always belonged in the first place. And no one is forcing a woman to get pregnant, nor are they forcing them to have an abortion, so this hyperbolic “hostage” language is a bit ridiculous.
Carina’s words were also quite ironic, especially given that she’s an ob/gyn, and a possibly pregnant one at that.
“…work was my happy place, full of happy people, bringing in new life…”
Carina loved celebrating new life. But now she’s so angry that some states have made it illegal for women to take the bodies of their unborn children hostage and end their lives via abortion that she can’t control her temper or maintain her professionalism?
Sounds like her character should find a new profession…and possibly some therapy.
