Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) took out two birds with one stone Monday with a post mocking D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s claims regarding her city’s current gayness and future status.

In a post on X.com, Lee embedded video of Mayor Bowser’s remarks at a Pride flag raising ceremony in D.C., during which Bower made the following claims:

“Fifty-one years of pride in the future 51st state.”

“We’re celebrating Pride Month in the gayest city in the world.”

“DC can become a state just like a man in a dress can become a woman,” Lee replied, simultaneously taking shots at the ability of either the city or individuals to become something they’re not.

Bowser has declared her city to be “the gayest city in the world” at previous Pride events, even though San Francisco is typically granted that distinction among U.S. cities.

“Last year, we welcomed the world for World Pride 2025,” Bowser recalled on Monday, adding:

“We showed them exactly who we are.”
