Former President Barack Obama claimed the motives of the gunman who opened fire at the White House Correspondents Dinner on Saturday are unknown – hours after suspect Cole Tomas Allen’s own explanation of his motives was made public.
“[We] don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night's shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner,” Obama claimed in a X.com post at 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.
Nearly six hours earlier, The New York Post published (and other media subsequently reported) the full text Allen’s thousand-word manifesto thoroughly detailing his plans.
One section of Allen’s manifesto is even titled: “On to why I did any of this.”
In the manifesto, Allen explicitly articulates his motives are to target President Donald Trump and members of the Trump Administration, in comments such as:
And I am no longer willing to permit a pedophile, rapist, and traitor to coat my hands with his crimes.
- “Administration officials (not including Mr. Patel): they are targets, prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest.”
- “I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary (on the basis that most people *chose* to attend a speech by a pedophile, rapist, and traitor, and are thus complicit) but I really hope it doesn’t come to that.”
- “I don’t see anyone else picking up the slack.”
- “In so far as representatives and judges do not follow the law, no one is required to yield them anything so unlawfully ordered.”
- “I experience rage thinking about everything this administration has done.”
Feigning ignorance of inconvenient, established fact is a typical liberal tactic, especially when it comes to ideologically-driven legacy media, as in the case of MS NOW’s Sunday night report on Saturday’s assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents Dinner.
On The Weekend: Primetime, MS NOW’s Josh Einiger cast doubt on the White House Correspondents Dinner attacker’s “motive” and “ideology.” Even though Allen’s manifesto writings were “described as anti-Trump in nature,” they were “not aligned to one specific ideology,” Einiger claimed. Likewise, Allen described himself as a "friendly federal assassin," but Einiger said he was "not entirely sure what that means in terms of a motive."
The MS NOW segment fits a familiar liberal, legacy media pattern, NewsBusters explains:
When an attacker’s motive is clear, but inconvenient for the liberal media, they have an annoying habit of squinting and downplaying, hedging, or professing confusion even when the attacker’s own words are right there in black and white. As in: “Okay, yeah, he screamed ‘Allahu Akbar: Death to America!’—but let’s not jump to any hasty conclusions!”
Armed with multiple firearms, Allen allegedly shot a security officer who was wearing a bullet-proof vest, before being subdued and taken into custody. He is scheduled to be arranged and charged Monday afternoon.
