Gov. Tim Walz: Republicans Are Nazis Who Say Divisive Things, ICE Is Gestapo

A Democrat governor who called Republicans “Nazis” and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) “Gestapo” accused the White House of hate speech Thursday.

Responding to a social media post of comments by White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, Governor Tim Walz (D-MN) accused the administration of inciting hate:

“The White House says outrageous things to make you hate your neighbor.

“Your neighbor isn’t the problem. The White House is.”

But, the Democrat’s own rhetoric in recent months has often been extremely outrageous and hate-inciting, comparing Republicans and law enforcement to Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime.

“I’m glad Governor Walz agrees that it’s time to tone down the violent rhetoric,” Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) posted in June, sharing video of comments by Walz on three separate occasions in 2025 (May 17, May 31, June 14).

“Comparing ICE agents to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo and encouraging your party to ‘bully the s**t’ out of your political opponents directly contributes to tragedies like [the shooting] we saw in Minnesota today,” Biggs wrote, introducing the video clips of Gov. Walz calling for Democrats to “bully,” “push back” and be “meaner” and “more fierce”:

  • “Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets.”
  • “Because I called Donald Trump a wanna-be dictator, it’s because he is. It’s because he is.”
  • “Maybe, it’s time for us to be a little meaner. Maybe, it’s time for us to be a little more fierce.”
  • “When it’s a dolt like Donald Trump, you bully the s**t of him back. You push back.”

Department for Homeland Security Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that Walz's “Gestapo” comments were "sickening," and claimed similar rhetoric and demonization of ICE officers has led to a 413% increase in assaults on immigration officers.

In February, Gov. Walz was caught on camera accusing Republicans of being “fascists and Nazis” who are “stealing” the U.S.:

"I see the pundits on TV — 'What's wrong with the Democratic Party?' What's wrong is our country is being stolen by fascists and Nazis."

Gov. Walz refused to apologize for the remark.

In October, then-Vice Presidential Candidate Walz compared Republican Candidate Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally to a 1939 Nazi Party rally at the same venue, as The Hill reported:

“Donald Trump’s got this big rally going at Madison Square Garden,” Walz said at an event in Henderson, Nev. “There’s a direct parallel to a big rally that happened in the mid-1930s at Madison Square Garden.

“An American Nazi Party held a rally at Madison Square Garden in February 1939 that lured 20,000 supporters to the iconic New York City landmark.

“‘And don’t think that he doesn’t know for one second exactly what they’re doing there,’ Walz said.”

And, in January, Gov. Walz accused Elon Musk, who was then heading the Trump Administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOE), of giving a Nazi salute during a speech.

"My heart goes out to you," Musk told his audience while extending his right arm to them.

Gov. Walz’s post on Thursday was a response to video of White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt saying “The Democrat Party's main constituency is made up of Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens, and violent criminals."
