MRC’s Dan Gainor rebuffed Clinton campaign complaints of distortion on the part of Associated Press due to recent reporting on the Clinton Foundation scandal.
On Aug. 23, AP reported that a disturbing amount of Clinton’s meetings as Secretary of State occurred with donors to The Clinton Foundation, her and her husband’s charity. The story bolstered allegations she engaged in pay-for-play while secretary of state.
Clinton spokesman Brian Fallon slammed the AP for bias reporting saying it “cherry-picked” information “to give a distorted portrayal of how often [Clinton] crossed paths” with foundation donors, according to UPI.
During an Aug. 24, appearance on Fox Business Network’s Mornings with Maria, MRC Vice President for Business and Culture Gainor rebutted the claim saying, “This is classic Clinton dodge ball. In their game, everybody gets hit but her.”
Gainor argued that Clinton dodged media coverage of her foundation’s ethics issues “for years,” and suggested her campaign’s latest response was an overreaction.
“One story bounces out, their immediate, their team’s argument is that ‘Oh, the AP’s not playing fair,’” Gainor said.
MRC Business found that the Clinton Foundation took money from foreign countries which killed or imprisoned gay people. Gainor said that was one reason Clinton should have to answer pay-for-play allegations.
“The more this gets out now close to the election, Clinton should have to answer all of the allegations of pay-for-play,” Gainor said.
If she doesn’t, “We don’t get any answers for the fact that they ran a foundation while she was Secretary of State that was getting $2 billion, including at least $25 million from nations that either lock up or execute gay people.”
He pointed out that although voters care about the story, the liberal media have barely covered it. Gainor cited an MRC analysis showing that network news spent less than five minutes covering the Clinton Foundation in the beginning of the year.
“It’s nuts!” fill-in host Sandra Smith interjected.
Gainor added that while the media barely covered the Clinton Foundation, it spent much more time covering “a decades-old allegation of Donald Trump pretending to be his own PR guy.”
In reference to liberals, Gainor said “the reality here is that their side gets upset anytime they get any negative coverage, and they get so little, it’s ridiculous.”
