It’s no question MSNBC has been begging for President Donald Trump’s impeachment. So, how does MSNBC legal analyst Jill Wine-Banks handle the issue of impeachment? By giving money to a Democratic Party House member who would later vote for impeachment.
FEC records revealed that MSNBC Legal Analyst Jill Wine-Banks gave $500 to Democratic Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-IL.) on May 13, 2019. Underwood voted for Trump’s impeachment in December, though she represents a district in Illinois that backed Trump in 2016.
Underwood said she was initially undecided on the matter of impeachment, worrying about a “power-grab” move by her party, according to Vox-Recode Aug. 5. During an Apr. 24, 2019 segment on MSNBC Chris Matthews’ Hardball (19 days before her contribution), Wine-Banks said, “Let me just say that there is enough evidence in the Mueller report to draw a conclusion that there are indictable offenses. That means there are impeachable offenses” [emphasis added]. Wine-Banks listed MSNBC as her employer.
In October 2019, a few months after the contribution, Wine-Banks made a case on MSNBC’s AM Joy that both Vice President Mike Pence and President Trump could be impeached to clear the way for Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to become the new president.
Liberal anchor Joy Reid fretted to Wine-Banks about a potential Pence presidency: “How does anything change if Donald Trump is no longer at the top of this sort of, you know, web of corruption, but Pence is then at the top of it?”
Wine-Banks responded: “you could impeach Pence first. The problem is that Donald Trump then has to name his replacement. But I think that maybe a deal could be struck where he was told, if you don't make a replacement, then Nancy Pelosi does become president” [emphasis added].
Maybe contributing cash to a liberal Congresswoman who despises Trump may have had something to do with such a biased legal assessment on impeachment. Underwood once claimed without evidence that migrant children’s deaths on the U.S. border were part of an “intentional” plot by the Trump administration.
Underwood accused the president of a “pattern of corrupt behavior” and for having allegedly “abused his power” based on “[t]he testimony and evidence put forth” in her decision to vote to impeach, according to the Chicago Tribune Dec. 17, 2019.
This seems to be a trend for MSNBC. Wine-Banks is the second MSNBC commentator MRC Business has uncovered giving money to a Democratic Party candidate. In November 2019, records revealed that former Republican National Committee Chairman and MSNBC political analyst Michael Steele personally contributed $250 to Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV). He provided commentary to MSNBC on the 2018 West Virginia Senate race two months after his contribution.
Help fight back against the media's impeachment crusade.
