When you mess with the P.C. police you’re bound to get your privilege checked. Which is exactly what happened to former James Bond actor Roger Moore. The View to a Kill star recently became a target of the P.C. police when he commented 007 should be portrayed only as a handsome, suave, masculine, straight man … you know, as the character was originally created by Ian Fleming.
According to Daily Mail, “James Bond legend Sir Roger Moore has courted controversy by insisting that 007 could never be portrayed as a gay man – or be played by a woman … He said: ‘I have heard people talk about how there should be a lady Bond or a gay Bond. But they wouldn’t be Bond for the simple reason that wasn’t what Ian Fleming wrote.’”
Funny, though, the Daily Mail didn’t actually cite any criticism of Moore, and seems to be the only party engaging in the “controversy.”
“[t]he 88-year-old star said ‘political correctness’ should not be pandered to, insisting: ‘It is not about being homophobic or, for that matter, racist – it is simply about being true to the character[,]’” according to Daily Mail.
Other Bond stars hold a contrary view of the legendary British spy. For example, newly released Spectre star Daniel Craig is happy to conform to the liberal diversity agenda. “When asked last week if Bond could be black, a woman or gay, he [Craig] replied: ‘Anything’s possible. You can do anything as long as it’s credible and it works[,]’’ Daily Mail wrote.
GoldenEye star Pierce Brosnan is a fellow P.C. Kool-Aid drinker, saying, “’Sure, why not?’ when asked if the character could be gay, though he doubted producers would allow it.”
Hopefully, the franchise will not cave to the political correct nonsense that is taking over everything these days and let the Bond character remain the strapping, womanizing rogue that he is — which is just the way Moneypenny, and the rest of us, like him.
