TLC has a nasty history of exploiting children. One of their tasteless offerings is “Toddlers and Tiaras,” a controversial show that porned up and exploited toddlers in beauty pageants.
Taking it further, on Aug. 8, TLC introduced a new spinoff show titled, “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” starring 6-year-old “Toddlers and Tiaras” alum Alana Thompson. The degrading series is a train wreck at best and hedges on its shock factor to draw viewers in to Honey Boo Boo’s trashy world.
“Go Go Juice” swilling Alana, perhaps best known for her “A doller makes me holler!” slogan grossly referred to vaginas as “biscuits,” and declared her new male pet piglet “Glitzy” is gay, all in the first hour.
The series can only be described as a mockery of Alana and her redneck family, all who have no shame about their white-trash lifestyle. The show opens with Alana’s mother, June, washing her hair in the kitchen sink and scratching the “fleas” in her hair.
“Our hair has always been washed in the kitchen sink,” remarked June. When the family attended the Redneck Games, June had even more to say about the local yokels.
“All that vajiggle jaggle is not beautimus," remarked June with an air of condescension. But, according to Honey Boo Boo, June didn’t have any right to judge another person’s appearance. “My mama weighs the most in my family because she's fat. Truth,” the 6-year-old exclaimed.
Later, June inappropriately discussed female anatomy with her six-year-old and the rest of the family. In a grotesque metaphor she likened a vagina to a biscuit. “It's called a biscuit because it looks like a biscuit and it opens up," June explained. For the balance of the episode, Alana never missed a chance to use the term.
The series premiere ended with a new addition to the Thompson family, a piglet which Alana named “Glitzy.” We’re gunna make it a girl pig, so he's going to be a little gay,” she said.
