If you were to believe Chris Matthews, his fellow Catholic, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) has recently stated his support for traditional marriage only because he's "looking out for his right flank." Apparently sincerely-held religious beliefs don't seem to play into the mix at all in Matthews's view.
Bush, Matthews noted, told the Christian Broadcasting Network that he believes marriage is a "sacrament." Of course, that is the official teaching of the Catholic Church, and supposedly believed by Catholics of all political stripes, Mr. Chris Matthews -- born and raised in the Church -- included.
Of course, do recall that Mr. Bush is a convert to Catholicism and that Matthews infamously cast aspersions on converts by suggesting communion with Rome is the route to take if you're "anti-gay."

And Bush told the Christian Broadcasting Network that marriage between a man and a woman is a sacrament and regardless of how the Supreme Court rules next month, he will be a stalwart supporter of traditional marriage. Bush said it's hard to fathom why thousands of years of culture and history are being changed at, quote "time warp speed."
