Just how impressed is the liberal Alec Baldwin with Bill Clinton? According to the actor, who hosts a radio show in New York called Here's the Thing, Clinton is "like Chuck Yeager to me. You crash that jet fighter and you get out and you're alive. He survived."
Yeager, of course, is the pilot who famously broke the sound barrier. According to Baldwin, Clinton is "so goddamn tough, this guy." Baldwin's praise came as he interviewed George Stephanopoulos.
Baldwin admitted he didn't care about Clinton's affairs: "You want him to drink? You want him to take prescription medicine? If the way he takes the edge off is he likes women, then, I'm, like, okay."
A partial transcript of the March 3 radio segment is below:
ALEC BALDWIN [On Bill Clinton]: My admiration for him is that he survived. I really don't give a damn for what people do in their personal lives. What's the preferred way for the President to take the edge off? You want him to drink? You want him to take prescription medicine? If the way he takes the edge off is he likes women, then, I'm like, okay. I'll take that of the three. Choose one of the three. That doesn't bother me.
STEPHANOPOULOS: I'll let you speculate on that.
BALDWIN: I'm not asking you to. I'm not asking you to chime in here. But all this stuff, people's behavior in their personal lives, that never really, really bothered me. But, I also, when I see him, I have this tremendous – he's like Chuck Yeager to me. You crash that jet fighter and you get out and you're alive. He survived.
STEPHANOPOULOS: And – tough.
BALDWIN: Tough. He's so goddamn tough, this guy.
