As we reported here on NewsBusters, during a recent Morning Joe appearance Chuck Todd twice said that Dem candidate for senator from Kentucky Alison Lundergan Grimes "disqualified herself" for refusing to say whether she voted for Barack Obama for president.
On Chris Hayes' MSNBC show tonight, Todd said he was "sick to his stomach" when he saw that his comment had been used in an ad for Mitch McConnell. But interestingly, instead of blaming the McConnell campaign, Todd tagged Grimes, saying she had "invited this on herself" by her refusal to answer the simple question.
CHRIS HAYES: Well, and I have to ask you about this --
CHUCK TODD: I know you do.
HAYESS: This is the, I will play the Mitch Mcconnell ad which features our very own Chuck Todd of Meet the Press. Take a look.
TODD [in ad]: Kentuckians expect her to cast a tough vote on anything? Is she ever going to answer a tough question on anything? I think she disqualifed herself.
HAYES: Your thoughts on being in a Mitch McConnell ad?
TODD: Nobody -- it's sick to your stomach to be a part of a campaign. I don't like being a part of it at all. I think that it is one of those situations where she invited this on herself. And it feels as if she had a lot of consultants whispering in her ear: whatever you do, don't give Mitch Mcconnell a line for a TV ad.
