Planned Parenthood Tips Hat to Univision’s 'Hola Doctor' for Promoting Obamacare

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s leading provider of abortions, is so happy with Univision's work promoting Obamacare that it has bestowed upon the network’s premier digital health content partner, Hola Doctor, its annual award for “media excellence”.

Hola Doctor, which provides Univision with co-branded web content, received the award in the “Online Reporting” category, and was specifically recognized for its efforts to “educate the Latino community on the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA).”

Adriana Beorlegui, managing editor of Hola Doctor and a long-time Univision veteran , received the “Maggie Award,” named for the infamous racist, anti-family founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger.

Planned Parenthood has been one of Obamacare’s most vocal institutional supporters, as the law includes a birth control and abortion coverage mandate that has been fiercely opposed by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, along with many other pro-life, faith-based groups.

Planned Parenthood's work is not widely favored in the U.S. Hispanic community. As reported by the Pew Research Hispanic Trends Project last summer, most Hispanics in the United States (53%) think abortion should be illegal in most or all cases.

Similarly, a Pew poll in March of 2014 found Obamacare has lost the support of the majority of Hispanics, with this segment of the U.S. population evenly divided (at 47%) between those who support and oppose it. Similarly, a Kaiser Family Foundation last month found that 53% of Americans overall have an unfavorable opinion of Obamacare.

As reported by the Media Research Center in its landmark April 2014 study Hispanic Media in the Balance, Univision has participated in a high-profile partnership with the Obama administration to promote Obamacare. The California Endowment alone signed a $20 million deal with Univision last year for its Obamacare campaign.

The inaugural study of MRC Latino found that the fairness and honesty of Univision’s news coverage of Obamacare suffered as a result, with liberal advocates of Obamacare cited nearly five times as often as conservative opponents of Obamacare during the four-month study period.
