“Americans want our next president to be a woman, hey babe here’s lookin’ at you Senator Elizabeth Warren,” were the words sung in a new video put out by the Ready for Warren website following the Massachusetts Democrat's keynote address at the liberal Netroots Convention in Detroit on Friday afternoon.
A former Obama staffer launched a “Ready for Warren” website and took to the liberal activist conference Netroots this week passing out hats, signs, and stickers touting “Elizabeth Warren for President.” Warren delivered the keynote speech at the event this afternoon and the Ready for Warren folks released a “folk music video” urging the Senator to run.
The video released by the group featured several of Warren’s talking points from her speech in lyrical form. The National Journal reported that when the Senator delivered her speech she outlined her “11 Commandments of Progressivism.” Among the commandments were: “equal pay for equal work,” an increased minimum wage because “no one should work full time and still live in poverty” and “fast food workers deserve a livable wage.”
The main bent of Warren’s speech can be summed up in her argument that, “Conservatives and their powerful friends will continue to be guided by their internal motto: I got mine, the rest of you are on your own.” As an enthusiastic Benjy Sarlin of MSNBC.com gushed today, Warren’s message is similar to that of Hillary Clinton, but the difference with Warren is her speeches “almost uniformly paint her opponents as tools of corporate power acting in bad faith to achieve shadowy and illegitimate goals.”
“There’s no bullshit factor with Elizabeth Warren,” Sarlin quoted one Warren backer Judy Hertz, who hails from President Obama's hometown of Chicago. "She says what needs to be said and then fights for it," she added.
Warren’s view of the wealthy can be summed up by these lyrics from the music video released to urge her to run,
“So you’re rich. That’s fantastic and God bless, but there’s just a couple of things Liz Warren won’t let you forget. Nobody got rich on their own, not nobody. Everybody needs bridges and streets to succeed.”
