There are some lives not worth living, and a Down Syndrome baby is one of them – at least, according to Jezebel’s latest article.
Katie J. M. Baker recently bashed a pastor for rescuing an unborn Down Syndrome baby from abortion, insisting that “so many mistreated babies and kids with Downs live terrible lives” in Jezebel, a feminist blog detailing “celebrity, sex, fashion for women.” Rev. Thomas Vander Woude, a Catholic priest located in Gainesville, Va, offered to help the 6-month-pregnant mother of a Down Syndrome baby to locate an adoptive family as an alternative to abortion. When Father Vander Woude sent the alarm via social media begging for prospective parents, responses flooded in by the hundreds.
While Baker admitted the story seemed “heartwarming,” she put words in the priest’s mouth: “But abortion is sin!” and “Let me pressure you into carrying to term by hastily crowdsourcing an adoptive family!” Her addiction to negativity continued as she claimed the mother “is still being coerced into carrying to term.”
Baker couldn’t stop at Rev. Woude. The Catholic Church – the whole pro-life movement – deserved blame as she whined. “Instead of throwing resources at a nonviable fetus, why can't the church help children with Down Syndrome that are already alive?” she asked. Not comprehending that pro-lifers argue for life in the womb, she ranted, “Anti-abortion folks care more about fetuses with fairytale narratives than actual babies.”
Jezebel boasted a special obsession over the life versus abortion debate in the past from calculating the best age for abortion to erasing “life” from terminology.
