Differing security policies for recent concerts at Brooklyn's new Barclays Center are raising eyebrows in the Big Apple.
When rapper Jay-Z did a series of concerts at the new facility beginning the end of September, attendees were forced to go through metal detectors, but when Barbra Streisand performed there Friday evening, no such precautions were in place.
According to the New York Post, folks attending the October 7 Harlem Globetrotters game also went through metal detectors.
Brooklyn Councilwoman Letitia James told the Post the move “sends a bad message.”
“There shouldn’t be a double standard; there should be one rule of law,” she said Friday. “If you have metal detectors for people coming to see Jay-Z, the same should apply for Barbra Streisand."
The Gothamist offered another possibility: "initial arena security director Bob Sena left his job a little more than a week after they opened. So it is possible they are experimenting with various new policies now."
Some upcoming shows this month include gospel's The King's Men as well as rock's Rush, Journey, and The Smashing Pumpkins.
If security procedures don't become consistent, one should expect more outrage.
Stay tuned.
