CBS Late Show host David Letterman on Friday accused Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney of being "a felon."
"The man has not paid a nickel in United States federal income tax" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
In a segment about findings in a recent Zogby poll, Letterman observed, "Americans would most like to see: six percent said Mitt Romney's tax returns."
"Yeah, we want to get a look at those tax returns," offered the Obama-loving host, "because I believe we will discover that the man has not paid a nickel in United States federal income tax."
After some applause, Letterman continued, "That’s right, we have a felon running for president."
Sounds exactly like what Obama deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said in July.
I guess Letterman missed Romney revealing just two weeks ago that he paid almost $2 million in federal income taxes last year.
Why let facts get in the way when you're accusing a presidential candidate of being a felon.
