A day after CNN salivated over Michelle Obama's DNC address, ABC hyped the enthusiasm at the Democratic Convention as hitting unprecedented levels on Wednesday night.
"Look, I have never seen a Democratic convention like this," insisted commentator Cokie Roberts. "When the President, the former President, comes out, they – it is going to be a moment like no moment you've seen." [Video below the break. Audio here.]
"These people – I am looking at them all – they are just sitting in their chairs, listening to the speakers, they are rapt, they are clapping for people you've absolutely never heard of and getting very excited," Roberts raved. Clapping, excitement, anticipation – isn't that what happens at most every convention?
Regardless, ABC's Jonathan Karl continued fueling the excitement train. "I spent the convention on the floor in Tampa. And I'm here and the decibel level is different, and the enthusiasm," he touted, before interviewing an excited delegate.
For his part, Matthew Dowd continuing cheerleading Michelle Obama's speech from the previous night. "I think everybody, I think, believes that Michelle Obama knocked it out of the park, I think for many different reasons. She did for the crowd, for enthusiasm, and many people now look at her and it's like wow, she could be a national candidate on the scene," he gushed.
A partial transcript of the segments, which aired during ABC's coverage of the Democratic National Convention on September 5 beginning at 10:07 p.m. EDT, is as follows:
GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: One of the other things, Cokie Roberts, they're going to be doing, and I think you – if you take Michelle Obama's speech last night where they tried to bring voters inside the White House residence, tonight Bill Clinton will try to bring them inside the Oval Office, speak as a man who's faced the pressures of being a President.
COKIE ROBERTS: I think that's exactly right, George, and it will be very powerful. Look, I have never seen a Democratic convention like this. These people – I am looking at them all – they are just sitting in their chairs, listening to the speakers, they are rapt, they are clapping for people you've absolutely never heard of and getting very excited. Right now, Sandra Fluke, the young woman who got in trouble with talking about contraception at Georgetown Law School, she's now talking and listen to them, they are just incredibly fired up. And the President, the former President, comes out, they – it is going to be a moment like no moment you've seen. And he will be able to talk to them about the pressures of being President, and how Barack Obama in his view has certainly risen to them.
