The Washington Post "On Faith" blogger, Sally Quinn, has come up with a suggestion so bizarre that I would not not blame you for casting aspersions upon the veracity of your humble correspondent until you read it for yourself. Basically Quinn is recommending that gays and lesbians "infiltrate" Chick-fil-A restaurants to the point where they become gay hangouts to such an extent that even gay weddings will be performed there. And if you think that recommendation is absurd beyond belief, you won't be alone. Her blog is filled with commenters whose reactions can best be described as face-in-palm. You can't blame them after reading this "gem" from Sally:
While Christians will be showing up at the restaurants in droves today, there is a movement afoot by “The Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation” to stage kiss-ins in front of many outlets. Mayors of Washington, San Francisco, Boston and Chicago have expressed their outrage at the company policy.
What to do if you feel the same way?. The idea of a boycott is so clichéd. Even the kiss-in doesn’t really make the point.
Gays and lesbians could start applying for jobs at Chick-fil-A. Get in there. Become managers, take over the places. Gays could begin patronizing Chick-fil-As and I don’t mean carry out. Make the restaurants the gay hangouts of the community. Gay partners and Married gays could begin taking their children there. They could start having birthday parties for their kids. They could have Gay pride events there. (They have an events manager – just call) They could even have gay weddings there.
Yeah, sure. Spend years working at a Chick-fil-A until you become a manager. And for what purpose? So you can have pride events and weddings there? That is a very realistic goal...NOT! You just have to wonder if Sally Quinn has enjoyed perhaps one mojito too many when writing this blog entry.
Here are the some of the reactions of her readers about Quinn's coo-coo suggestion:
You are very ignorant and this article is exactly what is wrong with most media today. What a childish recommendation to make Chick-Fil-A the 'gay community' hang outs.
Sally, you are woefully behind the times. There already are gay employees including managers working at Chik-Fil-A.
Is your idea of gys applying for jobs, eating at and bringing their kids to Chik-Fil-A supposed to be something radical? Newsflash, they have been doing it every day for years. Chik-Fil-A does not discriminate against homosexuals.
Sally Quinn - this article is a joke. Take your agenda somewhere else. The majority of Americans don't agree with your position and today's outpouring of support for Chick-fil-a proves it. You have the right to spout this non-sense but it is nonsense.
Infiltrate this; every Chick-Fil-A across the country is packed today with people supporting freedom of speech and religion.
One wonders if Sally Quinn will take her own advice and "infiltrate" Chick-fil-A as a customer. If she does dare risk incurring the wrath of the PC left and "infiltrate," I highly recommend their waffle fries.
