Daily Kos Week in Review: Left-Wing Summer School

July 27th, 2012 11:24 PM

If Daily Kos were an online university, and you were taking a course called Fundamentals of the Republican Party, you would have learned this week that while bedrock GOP beliefs are incompatible with Christ's teachings, they're quite similar to Hitlerian ideology.

As usual, each headline is preceded by the blogger's name or pseudonym.

SquareForceOne: Jesus thinks Republicans are jerks...

No one in American life today proclaims their allegiance to Christ more conspicuously than those who have rejected most of what Christ actually taught: Republicans...

...As Garrison Keillor once reminisced, Republicans used to be:

moderate, business-minded civic boosters and unapologetic patriots who were the linchpins and bulwarks of small towns across the Midwest...These Republicans were uniters and diehard optimists and persons of compassionate conscience, inveterate doers of good deeds.

Even today, there are probably some Republicans who still fit that description. The problem is that they are for all practical purposes invisible in American public life, and if their party found out about them, they would be hounded out of it...

...[T]oday’s Republican Party doesn’t appear to stand for anything but what Christ strenuously rejected, like organized violence, self-righteous division, and greed...

...[T]oday, you cannot be both a Republican and a Christian.

[unknown]: ...probably because they're so much like Nazis

Watching the degeneration of the Republican Party over the past 50 years from what had been a mere country club of stodgy, authoritarian old bullies into the world's most freakish clownstravaganza of psychotically irate, cannibalistic Nazi zombie lie-machines would strain any sane person's perspective on history. We forget that in previous generations there had at least been some Republicans who still considered themselves Americans, who...fought and died on battlefields of Europe fighting enemies whose ideas are now basically their own...

Armando: Obama, rightful heir to the Founders

...[U]nderstanding the anti-Federalist, anti-Constitution arguments embraced by Republicans is important and needs to be discussed often. Romney and Republicans support the Articles of Confederation. They are anti-Federalists.

Obama and Democrats support the Constitution. They are the heirs to the Founders.

bluedogsd: First Paterno, then the Pope

...The Catholic Church needs the fury of the NCAA ruling on a grand scale worldwide. They [sic] Catholic Church needs to be fined by the government in any country that is willing. They need to have their tax-exempt status ended. They should be required to have regulators perform frequent regulatory inspections of their operations.

Penn State was the biggest deal in NCAA football. They were a powerful institution. The NCAA laid down the concept that no one is above the law and disgusting behavior and complicity and cover-up should be treated with zero tolerance. It's time to do the same to the Catholic church...
...[T]he Catholic church is...a systemically evil organization which is hypocritical beyond all levels and it needs strong forces in the world body punish it and make sure that the culture which is clearly within it is destroyed.

GoBlue08: We share the road with fascists

I was driving home from work tonight and wound up following behind a guy on the freeway...[who] had a sticker on the back of his car that said "I'll Keep My Guns, Money and Liberty. You Can Keep the Change"...

There is so much wrong with that set of thoughts: it is completely we-they, it is completely about the big ME who owned that nice buggy, it posits so many false-hoods about the man it impugns by implication, it betrays a complete surrender to lies and bigotry, and, well, who knows what else...

When did such a large segment of Americans become so scared, and why were they so vulnerable to the fear-mongers?...

They believe in lies and want a fascist dictatorship to keep their little world in status quo...
