Did you know that a brave Navy Chaplain by the name of Gordon Klingenschmitt has been on a fast since December 20th? Probably not because the coverage in the mainstream media has been very limited, if not at all. An examination of the websites of ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News all come up with nothing. Cable news has also barely covered this story. Fox News has one short story, MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson had Klingenschmitt on as a guest, while CNN has completely ignored the story.
However, this story is one that needs to be shouted from the rooftops because if you’re a Christian and you believe in praying in the name of Jesus, and you believe that those military chaplains who are Christians have the right to pray in the name of Jesus, then you need to be aware of the blatant hostility and intolerance going on in the United States Navy.
Gordon Klingenschmitt is a Navy Chaplain who has served the nation’s military for numerous years and recently has been stripped of his uniform because he prayed in the name of Jesus. He says that he will not eat until President Bush signs an Executive Order that will allow military chaplains to pray according to their beliefs.
Fox News reported, “Navy admirals have told him that he can't pray publicly in Jesus' name unless he's wearing civilian clothes. He's continuing to pray as the Bible says Jesus instructed, but not in uniform.
"More than 70 members of Congress and 170,000 petitioners also are calling on President Bush to let chaplains pray according to their faith instead of being limited to generic invocations.”
According to an article posted on Omega Letter.com, "the Congressional letter noted that 80% of U.S. troops are Christians. But the military singles out and censors Christian prayers. The letter added that military "censorship" of chaplains' prayers disenfranchises "hundreds of thousands of Christian soldiers in the military who look to their chaplains for comfort, inspiration and support."
That same article goes on to say, "No Islamic chaplain has been refused to pray in the name of Allah, as far as we know. Neither has a rabbi been rebuked for making references to Hanukkah, and no Catholic priest has been rebuked for referring to the Blessed Virgin Mary."
Why is Gordon Klingenschmitt’s story being ignored by those in the mainstream media? How come a Christian Navy Chaplain who has served our great nation with honor and integrity is being ignored by those with the power to persuade the masses? If this were a story about a Muslim chaplain who was refused the power to pray in the name of Allah, dare I say ABC, NBC, CBS and CNN would be all over it.
Gordon Klingenschmitt is asking all Americans who believe in religious freedom and tolerance to contact the President and to let him know that we are requesting that he sign an Executive Order upholding the right of Navy chaplains to pray according to their faith.
