In an article for Roll Call on Wednesday about Connecticut Senator Joe Lieberman, David Drucker included a quote from left-wing lobbyist Jimmy Williams, who ranted: "...many in the Democratic caucus see Sen. Lieberman as a mosquito....The bad news is he has sucked enough blood from both sides of the aisle. The good news is winter is coming, meaning his time in the Senate will thankfully come to an end."
Given the refusal of the media to acknowledge the strain of anti-Semitism currently on display in the radical left Occupy Wall Street protests, it's troubling that Roll Call would choose to include such an offensive quote from Williams in its reporting. Especially as Lieberman nears the end of his tenure in office.
Drucker began the piece by describing how: "Sen. Joe Lieberman is chafing Democrats with his opposition to President Barack Obama’s jobs bill and his flirtation with Republican presidential and Senate candidates." He noted Democratic desires to "rein in" the independent Senator, who "wouldn't apologize" for recent meetings with Republican candidates in Connecticut.
Drucker further explained: "Of all the sins against his party, the greatest was probably his decision to endorse Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) for president in 2008 and to campaign aggressively on his behalf."
Following the comments from Williams, Drucker observed: "Lieberman’s pending departure from Capitol Hill would appear to render useless any punitive measures on the part of Senate Democrats to quell his recent actions. However, the fact that Lieberman is retiring has also diminished the sting of the disappointment many Democrats feel because of the Senator’s behavior."
Williams is a regular guest on MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan Show.
