Chris Matthews on Friday said Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell should be Time magazine's Man of the Year for engineering a "disgusting strategy" that forced Obama to the left and made the President look like a socialist.
"Time magazine’s picked people pretty awful," claimed the "Hardball" host. "I’m not mentioning their names…Hitler" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: You know who was Man of the Year last year Michael [Smerconish] and Ron [Reagan]? It was Mitch McConnell. I don't like what he did, but he screwed the country out of a decent, bipartisan agreement on anything forcing Obama on every issue from stimulus to healthcare to fin-reg, everything, he had to go to the left. He forced him to build all his coalitions on the left, screwed him over, then ran against him for being a leftist and a socialist after forcing him to be that. Mitch McConnell engineered that disgusting strategy, but it worked.
In a later segment:
REP. JIM MORAN (D-VIRGINIA): Hitler.
MATTHEWS: Hitler, yeah they pick bad people. So, I’m not saying he’s a good guy.
MORAN: I see.
MATTHEWS: But his ability to just say no to every single bill, forcing Barack Obama to build liberal to left coalitions all the time, and then call him a socialist. It’s worked.
Everybody follow that?
McConnell is evil because he forced Obama - the man with the most liberal voting record in the Senate when he was a member -to the left despite the President having at times a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and an overwhelming majority in the House.
As a result of McConnell's dastardly deeds, the man that was touted to be the one that would unite Washington was incapable of reaching any bipartisan agreements thereby putting him on par with the leader of the Nazi Party.
Readers are again reminded that Matthews thinks "Hardball" is "absolutely nonpartisan."
