Screenwriter Aaron Sorkin of "West Wing" and "Social Network" fame thinks Sarah Palin killing and eating a caribou in her TLC show is akin to Michael Vick promoting dog fights.
In a piece published Wednesday at Huffington Post, Sorkin also wrote of the former Alaska governor, "I don't watch snuff films and you make them":
I eat meat, chicken and fish, have shoes and furniture made of leather, and PETA is not ever going to put me on the cover of their brochure and for these reasons Palin thinks it's hypocritical of me to find what she did heart-stoppingly disgusting. I don't think it is, and here's why. [...]
I'm able to make a distinction between you and me without feeling the least bit hypocritical. I don't watch snuff films and you make them. You weren't killing that animal for food or shelter or even fashion, you were killing it for fun. You enjoy killing animals. I can make the distinction between the two of us but I've tried and tried and for the life of me, I can't make a distinction between what you get paid to do and what Michael Vick went to prison for doing. I'm able to make the distinction with no pangs of hypocrisy even though I get happy every time one of you faux-macho shitheads accidentally shoots another one of you in the face.
Hmmm. So hunting animals that you're going to eat is immoral, but Sorkin got pleasure when former Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a man while hunting.
See some problems with this idiot's logic? But there was more:
And you didn't just do it for fun and you didn't just do it for money. That was the first moose ever murdered for political gain. You knew there'd be a protest from PETA and you knew that would be an opportunity to hate on some people, you witless bully. What a uniter you'd be --bringing the right together with the far right.
For a man that has likely made millions writing for television, he apparently knows little about it. After all, Palin is doing a program about her life in Alaska. That includes hunting.
More importantly, this isn't the only program on television dealing with that sport. Sorkin and his sycophant devotees that are likely gushing and fawning over his posting might turn on the Outdoor Channel which regularly features hunting.
If such a thing offends them, why not protest that station?
Of course, the reason is that it's not the hunting that's bothering Sorkin. Heck, he probably has friends and acquaintances that do it all the time.
At issue is Sarah Palin, and his hatred for this woman is far greater than his disdain for folks that enjoy the sport of tracking, killing, dressing, and eating their food.
As NewsBusters reported two months ago, Sorkin went on the premiere of CNN's "Parker Spitzer" to lambaste the former governor:
Sarah Palin's an idiot. Come on. This is a remarkably, stunningly, jaw-droppingly incompetent and mean woman.
What he had to say Wednesday was just as virulent:
I eat meat, there are leather chairs in my office, Sarah Palin is deranged and The Learning Channel should be ashamed of itself.
No, Aaron - it is you that should be ashamed of yourself, for if the killing of animals disgusts you so, you should be a vegetarian.
If Sorkin really wants to understand animal cruelty, he should go to a slaughterhouse, a chicken farm, or spend some time on a commercial fishing vessel to witness first hand the suffering that transpires in order to put food on his plate every day.
The life and death of farm-raised animals and harvested seafood is far worse than anything that comes as a result of hunting.
Sorkin should try to remember that the next time he orders one of the many wonderful veal dishes at Spago.
