On this episode of the NewsBusters Podcast, I’m joined by News Analyst Alex Christy to discuss the liberal media’s covetous reaction to the election of Pope Leo XIV. We breakdown who and which outlets rushed to claim Leo as one of their own, while at the same time trying to downplay and or obfuscate his conservative elements. Yet others were surprised that the leader of the Catholic Church held Catholic beliefs about abortion and marriage.
Even before the College of Cardinals acted out the Holy Spirit’s intent in elevating Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost to pope, outlets like CBS were wish casting hopes for an extreme abdication of the Catholic Church’s teachings. CBS’s Tony Dokoupil wondered if a new pope would work to boost priest vocational numbers by allowing priests to lust.
We dove into the immediate reaction to the announcement, when the liberal media rushed to gaslight the world about Leo being a liberal like them. Of course, the ignored his apparent voting record in GOP primaries.
Liberal Catholic journalist Michael Sean Winters was on CNN gloating, spiking the football, and demanding that conservatives “do some soul searching.” He also declared that their “politics need to change.”
Alex walked us through the wide-ranging reporting from our researcher Rich Noyes, who gathered reaction to Leo from the Thursday even broadcast newscasts, prime time cable shows, and Friday morning broadcast newscasts. All of which, again, tried to suggest Leo was a staunch liberal.
We also delve into The View’s reaction, which consisted of the purported Catholics on the panel being fearful that the leader of the Catholic Church would adhere to Catholic doctrine on marriage.
Enjoy!
