As Democrats try to determine what went wrong for them after the election, NBC’s Seth Meyers had a simple message on Monday for those blaming wokeness, especially transgender sports: “[bleep] off.” Ironically, Meyers demanded those doing this look at themselves instead of blaming others, which is exactly what Meyers didn’t do.
After playing a clip of Democratic strategist Julie Roginsky on CNN saying things like “latinx” cost the party with Latino voters, an incredulous Meyers despaired, “You think that's what swayed the election? Why are Democrats forced to answer for every choice of words by anyone even remotely associated with the party? But Republicans don't have to answer for their supporters storming the Capitol or their own presidential candidate’s racism or misogyny or the fact that he says Hannibal Lecter is both real and a cool guy?”
Breaking out his Trump voice, Meyers added, "The great Hannibal Lecter. We love him, don't we? He ate people's brains when they were still conscious. But he never said the term 'latinx,' so we expect that."
First of all, does Meyers really never believe Republicans never had to answer for January 6 or Trump’s “racism or misogyny”? It’s all Democrats and the media talked about. Also, unlike “latinx,” the Hannibal Lecter thing is just part of Trump’s personality and not a political or culture war position.
Nevertheless, Meyers rolled on, “When you're a well-played Democratic consultant or you're a cable news pundit, it's much easier to beat up on some fake woke boogie man than do any actual self-reflection. When they're not busy blaming wokeness, they're throwing trans people under the bus.”
In a clip package, Rep. Tom Suozzi was seen telling a local New York reporter, “I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports.”
Additionally, former Hillary Clinton State Department advisor Philippe Reines told CNN, “Most Democrats I know, think, frankly, that males at birth shouldn't play in women's sports and vice versa.”
Meyers responded, “Now, in response to this, I've been pouring over complex electoral data to arrive at a nuanced reply that will take time to explain, which brings us to a segment called ‘Seth gives a long, complicated reply to a thorny political question.’ All right, bear with me, here goes. Anyone suggesting Democrats can win elections by throwing trans people under the bus, let me just say ‘[bleep] off.’”
He continued, “If you're choosing this moment—if you're choosing this moment to scapegoat and demonize vulnerable people rather than aim your criticism at the powerful elites and moneyed interests who paved the way for the return of Trump, and stand to benefit from his second term, you're way off.
For Meyers, accountability and self-reflection are things other people need to do, “Instead of blaming marginalized people, maybe look inward. Take some accountability. This is like the Jets saying they keep losing because there's one guy sitting all the way up in the upper deck who's distracting them. ‘He keeps screaming, 'Fooball's a tool of the patriarchy' and it's really throwing us off.’ The answer to losing an election is not to abandon marginalized communities, it's to stand in solidarity with them while challenging the powerful elites who aided and stand to benefit from a second Trump term.”
Meyers just doesn’t get it. Elites, like him, are the ones pushing boys in girls’ sports, “latinx,” and other fringe progressive obsessions that people just don't want.

SETH MEYERS: You think that's what swayed the election? Why are Democrats forced to answer for every choice of words by anyone even remotely associated with the party? But Republicans don't have to answer for their supporters storming the Capitol or their own presidential candidate’s racism or misogyny or the fact that he says Hannibal Lecter is both real and a cool guy?
[TRUMP VOICE] "The great Hannibal Lecter. We love him, don't we? He ate people's brains when they were still conscious. But he never said the term 'latinx,' so we expect that."
When you're a well-played Democratic consultant or you're a cable news pundit, it's much easier to beat up on some fake woke boogie man than do any actual self-reflection. When they're not busy blaming wokeness, they're throwing trans people under the bus.
TOM SUOZZI: I don't want to discriminate against anybody, but I don't think biological boys should be playing in girls' sports.
LOCAL NEWS REPORTER: Surprising comments from Democratic Congressman Tom Suozzi this week, speaking on an issue that has divided many along party lines and echoing what are usually Republicans' views.
PHILIPPE REINES: Most Democrats I know, think, frankly, that males at birth shouldn't play in women's sports and vice versa.
MEYERS: Now, in response to this, I've been pouring over complex electoral data to arrive at a nuanced reply that will take time to explain, which brings us to a segment called "Seth gives a long, complicated reply to a thorny political question."
All right, bear with me, here goes. Anyone suggesting Democrats can win elections by throwing trans people under the bus, let me just say [bleep] off.
