Joe Scarborough: born again pro-abortion-rights warrior!
Who would have thought it? The former Republican congressman from Florida's conservative panhandle, the guy who got a 100% rating from the National Right To Life Committee, and a 0% rating from Planned Parenthood, now sounds more like a NARAL spokeswoman.
On today's Morning Joe, Scarborough conveniently put into the mouth of an immigrant friend one of the oldest, tritest, and least logical, pro-abortion lines: "if you're against abortion, don't have one."
Here was that exchange, as recounted by Scarborough:
"I had a friend who's an immigrant to the United States, called me up and he's still kind of trying to figure out American politics. And he calls me last night and he says, he says, I need to understand something, this abortion thing. He goes, if somebody is against abortion, don't have an abortion.
I go, yeah, what?
"He goes, if somebody's against abortion, don't have an abortion! I go, yeah. He goes, don't Republicans understand? That's why they're losing. If they don't want to have an abortion, don't have an abortion. But don't tell everybody else not to have abortions. Isn't that the way it should be?
"And I just sat there and I was like, well, I think Americans think so. "
So if you're against AR-15s, Joe, don't buy one?
Scarborough then railed against the "radical Justices" that Trump put on the Supreme Court who overturned Roe. (Never mind how they adored Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was radical in the "right way.") So clearly Scarborough places himself in the liberal wing, denouncing the overturning of Roe, and supporting abortion as a constitutional right.
SCARBOROUGH: And because of Leonard Leo, and because of Leonard Leo's Supreme Court, because of radicals on the Supreme Court, he can expect to see those girls, those girls who had to flee the state when they were raped by an illegal immigrant, those girls who had to flee the state because they were raped by a member of their own family.
MIKA: Women who were told they need to bleed out in a parking lot rather than get treatment.
SCARBOROUGH: Right. Women told that the doctors were afraid to even provide life-saving care to them because they might get arrested because of Donald Trump. Because of Leonard Leo. Because of Leonard Leo's radical Supreme Court. All of those young women, whose lives have been made a living and breathing hell because of Donald Trump and that list of people.
Again, consider Scarborough's radical shift from pro-life to supportive of abortion rights. As a congressman, Scarborough would surely have avidly supported all of Trump's supposedly "radical" Supreme Court nominees. Now, he condemns them.
On Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough approvingly quoting an immigrant friend who, discussing the abortion issue, said, "if you're against abortion, don't have one" was sponsored by Liberty Mutual, Stanley Steemer, and Constant Contact.

6:08 am ETJOE SCARBOROUGH: Katty, sometimes we try to make politics a lot harder than, than they are.
And I, I had a friend who's an immigrant to the United States, called me up and he's still kind of trying to figure out American politics. And he calls me last night and he says, he says, I need to understand something, this abortion thing. He goes, if somebody is against abortion, don't have an abortion.
I go, yeah, what?
He goes, if somebody's against abortion, don't have an abortion! I go, yeah. He goes, don't Republicans understand? That's why they're losing. If they don't want to have an abortion, don't have an abortion. But don't tell everybody else not to have abortions. Isn't that the way it should be?
And I just sat there and I was like, well, I think Americans think so.
. . .
And Katty talked to a Trump person who said oh, he's going to be moderate on abortion he's -- you can see him trying to do that, right?
Here's the only problem. You got clip after clip after clip of Donald Trump bragging: I was the one that killed Roe v. Wade. I killed Roe v. Wade. I put the judges in who took away the right for abortion. I destroyed Roe v. Wade. And it's all over the place.
And so, Donald Trump should expect to see all of these victims of rape, all of these victims, of these women who were bleeding out because they couldn't get treatment because of Donald Trump.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Literally.
Donald Trump can expect, and he should expect, and he deserves to expect to hear that throughout 2024. Along with a clip that said, yeah, I was the one who killed Roe v. Wade.
