Ahead of the upcoming GOP presidential primary debate at the Reagan Library, Univision has released a poll conducted -yet again- by Joe Biden’s pollster. This should come as a shock to no one except whoever thought it was a good idea to allow far-left Univision anywhere within a thousand miles of a Republican presidential debate stage.
During the 2020 presidential election, Univision partnered with Latino Decisions, which had recently entered into a deal with the Biden campaign. Per Politico’s reporting at the time:
Dogged over his relatively weak support among Latinos in both the primary and general elections, Joe Biden is conducting a massive turnaround campaign, hiring a rash of Hispanic operatives, spending $1 million in Spanish-language outreach and, this week, signing one of the nation’s top pollsters in the field, Latino Decisions.
Univision never disclosed this relationship to their viewers whilst pushing out an initial poll that had Biden winning the national Hispanic vote by a staggering 42 points (the end margin was about 20, depending on who you ask).
A few days before the election, Univision and Latino Decisions would team up for another whopper that had Biden flipping the state of Florida. Again, viewers received no disclosure as to the polling firm’s relationship with the Biden campaign.
Fast forward to 2023, pollster Matt Barreto has left Latino Decisions and co-founded BSP Research, Univision’s partner . Per his own website:
Matt A. Barreto is Professor of Political Science and Chicana/o & Central American Studies at UCLA and the co-founder of the research and polling firm BSP Research. He is currently a senior advisor to the Biden White House C4 entity Building Back Together and conducts polling for the DNC and White House.
…
In 2020 Barreto was hired by the Joe Biden presidential campaign to direct polling and focus group research for Latino voters. In the prior cycle, Barreto conducted polling and focus groups for the 2016 Hillary Clinton presidential campaign.
Again, Univision provides no disclosure to their viewers. But this time, Univision isn’t just covering the primary campaign. By virtue of their co-moderation of the debate, they are in a position to further shape the primary and perhaps alter its trajectory.
Given Univision’s status as a wholly owned subsidiary of Televisa, reasonable people may come to believe that this continued non-disclosed use of Democratic pollsters amounts to foreign interference in our elections.
