After the controversy that started over the weekend surrounding Governor Greg Abbott (R-TX) deploying marine barriers on the Rio Grande in an attempt to secure his state's southern border, MSNBC's Joy Reid predictably lashed out Monday at Abbott for doing the job President Joe Biden refuses to do, and despicably accused him of wanting to cause "death to migrants including women and children."
Talking to radical leftist MSNBC contributor Julian Castro, Reid told him what she thought Abbott's intention was by putting up the barriers: "Let's talk about what's happening here. This appears to be an attempt to cause death to migrants including women and children," Reid slimed before asking Castro if that's the way he sees the situation.
Of course, right on cue, Castro agreed with Reid. "Yes, it is, Joy. This is sick stuff. This goes beyond just passively trying to keep people out. As you described, this is actively trying to harm people, and as the Houston Chronicle article made very clear, it is harming people."
"It's performative cruelty by Governor Abbott," Castro insisted. "How do we know that? Well, we know that because the number of border crossings in Texas has actually plunged since May when Title 42 was lifted. So what we have seen over the last several months is that those crossings have gone down, and the federal approach has been working to reduce those crossings."
Continuing to whine that Abbott wasn't welcoming illegal aliens into his state with open arms, Castro huffed: "Instead of recognizing that and trying to work with the federal government to make sure that things continue to go in the right direction, and also perhaps do something about comprehensive immigration reform, Governor Abbott engages in another level of cruelty to appeal to his right-wing base."
This isn't "about solving the problem," he proclaimed. "It's about hurting people to please his right-wing base."

7:38:02 p.m. EasternJOY REID: Let's talk about what's happening here. This appears to be an attempt to cause death to migrants including women and children. Is that the way you see it?
JULIAN CASTRO: Yes, it is, Joy. This is sick stuff. This goes beyond just passively trying to keep people out. As you described, this is actively trying to harm people, and as the Houston Chronicle article made very clear, it is harming people. In terrible ways. And now people are getting to see the pictures, they're getting to hear the stories of folks who have been maimed, people who have been put into danger, including children. So this is sick. It's performative cruelty by Governor Abbott. How do we know that? Well, we know that because the number of border crossings in Texas has actually plunged since May when Title 42 was lifted. So what we have seen over the last several months is that those crossings have gone down, and the federal approach has been working to reduce those crossings. And instead of recognizing that and trying to work with the federal government to make sure that things continue to go in the right direction, and also perhaps do something about comprehensive immigration reform, Governor Abbott engages in another level of cruelty to appeal to his right-wing base. That's all it is, not about solving the problem. It's about hurting people to please his right-wing base.
