In the immediate aftermath of President Joe Biden's signing of the Orwellian named Respect for Marriage Act, which does the exact opposite, and will make religious Americans a target for a bevy of lawsuits and litigation for daring to practice their faith, MSNBC weekend host Jonathan Capehart just gushed with praise of the legislation on Tuesday’s Deadline: White House.
“So this is pretty incredible,” Capehart said when asked by host Nicolle Wallace. “I recognize the power of this moment and the power of that law, we have to understand that even though it's a little limited, it codifies same-sex marriages in this country in case Obergefell goes down.”
“What we’re seeing today is historic, because, in Vice President Harris, and President Biden, we are seeing the sweep of history, when it comes to marriage equality. Vice President Harris was the DA in San Francisco in 2004 when she performed probably one of the first same-sex marriages in the country,” Capehart continued gushing over the immoral law.
Capehart recalled when Biden put the Obama regime in an uncomfortable position when he came out in favor of same-sex “marriage” before then-President Obama did:
And now here we are, 10 years later, 2022, with President Biden, signing into law the Respect for Marriage Act in perhaps, one of the most -- I'm having a hard time finding the words for how historic this moment is for a community that finds itself, the LGBTQIA+ community, that finds itself as targets, by politicians and others, who, through their rhetoric speak harm towards the community, and then there are others who act on that rhetoric, and then, you know, sheds violence on this community.
“To have the President of the United States speak affirmatively, sign a law that protects our families and speaks to our lives with dignity and respect, and to be standing there with the Vice President, who was there at the fight of marriage, almost 20 years ago, with an out gay cabinet secretary in Pete Buttigieg, I mean just the history and what we've seen today, is just—it's powerful, it's overwhelming,” Capehart breathlessly swooned.
He ended by hoping “it shows the American people, what it means to have a government that looks like America but also respects America.”

And I want to point something out, Nicolle as you were speaking and the President signed the bill into law. One of the things I always do is watch to see who the President gives the pen to, he gave the pen to Vice President Harris, and I think, what we’re seeing today is historic, because, in Vice President Harris, and President Biden, we are seeing the sweep of history, when it comes to marriage equality.
Vice President Harris was the DA in San Francisco in 2004, when she performed probably one of the first same-sex marriages in the country, she did that in San Francisco, fast-forward to 2012, on Meet the Press, with our late dear colleague Tim Russert, if memory serves, where then Vice President Biden says that he is in favor of same-sex marriage, getting ahead of the President himself, then President Obama, and now here we are, 10 years later, 2022, with President Biden, signing into law the Respect for Marriage Act in perhaps, one of the most -- I'm having a hard time finding the words for how historic this moment is for a community that finds itself, the LGBTQIA+ community, that finds itself as targets, by politicians and others, who, through their rhetoric speak harm towards the community, and then there are others who act on that rhetoric, and then, you know, sheds violence on this community.
