Members of the cackling coven weren’t in a good mood on Friday after Arizona Senator Kyrsten Sinema announced that she was dropping her Democratic Party affiliation and becoming an independent. At the top of ABC’s The View, Joy Behar and Sunny Hostin raged at how she was hurting Democrats. With mocking voices and general nastiness, the duo suggested the Senator had low self-esteem and was too stupid to figure out which political party was better.
Behar whined that “Democrats didn't get to enjoy their Senate victory for very long,” referring to Senator Warnock’s win in Georgia, and griped Sinema was bringing down the mood by essentially announcing “the party's over.”
After playing a clip of Sinema’s announcement where she says she’ll still be doing the work Arizonian elected her to do and being independent is more in line with voters there, Behar scoffed. “No, I think Democrats elected a Democrat,” Hostin sneered.
With a mocking tone, Behar went on to suggest Sinema was too stupid to know which party was better and seemed to think being independent was equivalent to being a Republican. She also said Republicans are racists and Nazis:
But it’s an interesting thing that she’s going through in her head. It's like, Okay, this party has nothing. They have no platform, nothing. All they do is hang out with Nazis and white supremacists. The other party actually is doing something for people like us, the working families, for gay people, for voting rights.” And then she's, like, “what should I do?”
Hostin called it a “strategic” election play for 2024 and hinted it was also because Sinema had low self-esteem and was looking for people to “love” her:
55 percent of women don't like her. 53 percent of men, 56 percent of white voters, 54 percent of Hispanic voters, voters over 50, 54 percent don’t like her, and young voters 18-49 55 percent don't like her.
So, I think she’s like, “Who's going to like me? So, let me become an independent so maybe I can get those independent voters, and maybe I can get those Republican voters, and maybe they'll love me.”
Sara Haines provided a counterpoint to Hostin, a role she’s increasingly taken on as faux Republican Alyssa Farah Griffin has been busy cowering in the corner. Haines pointed out that more people identify as independents than they do either Democrats or Republicans. “The moderates are growing and I think the whole idea of coming more to the center is actually more in touch with the pulse of the country,” she stated.
Hostin’s retort was to start bitterly shouting about how Sinema was sabotaging Democratic gains in the Senate:
I think she just hurt the Senate. I think Democrats were – were finally in a position of controlling the Senate 51 to 49. We were going to get a lot done, and if she wants to talk about getting a lot done, then she should have remained a Democrat so that we can get things done!
Backing her up, Behar fretted that Sinema would “split the vote” and hurt Democrats in Arizona.
But faux Republican Ana Navarro tried to quell those fears by suggesting she would supposedly split the Republican vote instead. “Republicans really, really like her. So, I'm not sure she wouldn't take some votes from the Republicans and take some votes from the independents,” she said. Behar quickly lapped it up.
This deep-seated hatred for Sinema is nothing new. A little over a year ago, The View labeled Sinema and West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin “enemies of democracy” and claimed they were “destroying the country.” They also threw a fit when Sinema and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) spoke highly of each other. “We don’t need her,” Behar ranted at the time.
It appears she got her wish.
