Behar Is 'Scared' AG Garland Waiting for Evidence to Arrest, 'Jail' Trump

Thursday night was the first in a series of at least six public hearings put on by the Democrat-led January 6 House Committee, a spectacle adored by the liberal media. And to show just how important the rule of law and American institutions are, The View’s Joy Behar lived up to ABC standards and decried Attorney General Merrick Garland for waiting to see hard evidence and a report before he took the action she wanted: hauling former President Trump to “jail.”

Back from a commercial break, Behar seemed to be trying to convince viewers to have faith in the committee. “So, last night was the first of six televised hearings from the January 6 committee, and they promised that they have the receipts that show Trump is to blame,” she said.

She then turned her ire towards Garland. “Attorney General Merrick Garland promises he'll watch, ‘as much as he is able.’ Isn't this his job?!” Behar exclaimed. “What other job does this guy have, I would like to know, and when is he going to do something. Then he'll decide after he watches the whole thing, whether or not to arrest him for trying to overthrow the government.”

What she essentially complained about was that Garland wasn’t acting like an enforcer for the Democratic Party in this instance and just rounding up her political enemies and throwing them in prison. You know, that thing that dictators do and the thing the liberal media claimed every attorney general Trump appointed would do.

“I think a lot of people are waiting to find out just that, like, what happens next? And I know that this is not to prosecute. What we're watching these next six times is not to prosecute,” Republican guest panelist Lindsey Granger reminded her, noting the others facing charges.

After Granger said her peace, Behar was desperate to find someone to say what she wanted. And she got it from self-described Republican Ana Navarro. “So, Ana is he going to go to jail, Trump? Anybody know the answer?”

“I think people have very little trust right now in the system,” Navarro huffed, hinting that just tossing Trump in jail was what would solve the problem.

Making the first of her two points, Navarro went on to declare that “Donald Trump, no matter how much people try to change the narrative, is going to two down in the anals [sic] of American history with the names of Benedict Arnold and Richard Nixon, he is a traitor.”

As actor George Takei has famously said, “oh, my!”

For her second point, Navarro praised Congresswoman Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) performance during the hearing:

Look, we’ve had all these indictments so far, but the people who’ve been indicted were the cavalry. The generals have not yet been indicted, and so what I hope is as this committee goes through the case and Liz Cheney did an excellent job yesterday laying out the case. Seven different steps of things that Donald Trump did.

Earlier in the show, Navarro blurted out that Cheney should be the Republican nominee in 2024.

“She was speaking legal jargon. She was speaking to Merrick Garland, who better get off his duff and do something about this,” she bitterly demanded. And despite the urging for extrajudicial imprisonment, Navarro had the nerve to claim this would be done for the ideal “we cannot be a lawless country.”

These calls for the extrajudicial arrest of a former president were made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Olay and Ensure. Their contact information is linked.

JOY BEHAR: So, last night was the first of six televised hearings from the January 6 committee, and they promised that they have the receipts that show Trump is to blame. Okay? Attorney General Merrick Garland promises he'll watch, quote, unquote, “as much as he is able.”

Isn't this his job? What other job does this guy have, I would like to know, and when is he going to do something. Then he'll decide after he watches the whole thing, whether or not to arrest him for trying to overthrow the government.

Now I mean, that is a depress-- that scares me. This is like a Mueller moment. Remember, we were all excited and then nothing.

So, what is the end game here, pray tell, Lindsey?

LINDSEY GRANGER: I think a lot of people are waiting to find out just that, like, what happens next? And I know that this is not to prosecute. What we're watching these next six times is not to prosecute.

So, we have to understand that what happened already is so important to me. The fact that around 800 people have already been arrested in connection to rioting on the Capitol steps, that's very important to me. The fact that four proud boys have been charged with -- what is it? Conspiracy – seditious conspiracy is important to me because when I watched that last night and I saw that Proud Boys “stand back and stand by,” help rally the troops and more racism in this country, that is the part that hit home for me.

So, that is really important to know that the steps are being taken and that's why I think people want to know, if this is a little bit of a spectacle because they want to understand what’s going to happen at the end of this besides knowing what we already understood.

BEHAR: So, Ana is he going to go to jail, Trump? Anybody know the answer?

ANA NAVARRO: Listen. I think people have very little trust right now in the system. I don't think it's going to move the needle at all with Trump supporters, and that's not the point. To me, there's two points of this. One is history, right? History will not whitewash or erase what happened on January 6. Donald Trump, no matter how much people try to change the narrative, is going to two down in the anals [sic] of American history with the names of Benedict Arnold and Richard Nixon, he is a traitor.

[Crosstalk and applause]

NAVARRO: Look, we’ve had all these indictments so far, but the people who’ve been indicted were the cavalry. The generals have not yet been indicted, and so what I hope is as this committee goes through the case and Liz Cheney did an excellent job yesterday laying out the case. Seven different steps of things that Donald Trump did.

She was speaking legal jargon. She was speaking to Merrick Garland who better get off his duff and do something about this.

BEHAR: That's right.

NAVARRO: Because we cannot be a lawless country where a president with the help of people in Congress who apparently were asking for --

SUNNY HOSTIN: Presidential pardons.

NAVARRO: -- presidential pardons. We cannot be a country where a president can try to stage a coup, get that close to it where police officers end up hurt, where we are all in a level of shock. You know, I'm so angry again. I thought I had processed this, right? Because we have been hearing about it for so long.

BEHAR: I am furious. I am furious.

NAVARRO: And then all of a sudden, this thing has me. I will never forgive Trump or his accomplices for the havoc they wreaked on this country.
