Today’s public schools have become indoctrination hotbeds, teaching the next generation of children everything from gender identity to (toxic) racial reconciliation strategies to outright communism. But one school in Wyoming is going beyond teaching standard subjects and offering kids a chance to learn a valuable life skill.
Fifth-grade students in Wyoming’s Hot Spring County School District #1 were offered a three-week elective course on how to properly handle guns by shooting air rifles in a makeshift gun range in a gym.
According to the district's superintendent Dustin Hunt, the course was created for these students because it will help the students learn a practical skillset that most will use in everyday life:
One of the many beauties of public education is that locally elected school boards help shape curriculum to match community norms and needs…In Wyoming, the vast majority of households have firearms. It is important for students to safely learn about and respect things they will encounter in their everyday lives.
This, my friends, is how the school system should be run. Instead of simply providing a base knowledge of a wide variety of subjects (which is important), provide them with opportunities outside of the classroom to learn something they will apply in other areas of life. After all, if the only thing we leave our kids is how to use algebra, they will not be set up for success.
Unfortunately, not all were pleased by these actions. The school posted a picture of the students practicing on Facebook, but then deleted it after receiving hefty backlash.
But Wyoming gubernatorial candidate Aaron Nan (R.) rushed to the defense of the school, calling those who were offended “crybabies”:
I fully support what the District was doing with this. This needs to be going on in schools across Wyoming.
Frankly, this should be happening in schools across America too.
