In a classic example of leftist media corruption, on Monday, NBC’s Today show reported on multiple international crises occurring on the Biden administration’s watch without mentioning the President’s name even once. The topics ranged from the U.S. imposing a travel ban on India amid a massive surge in coronavirus cases there, to a boat full of migrants capsizing off the California coast as the illegal immigration crisis continues, to Afghanistan fearing civil war following President Biden ordering the withdrawal of all U.S. troops.
“The U.S. sending more aid while also restricting travel to India this week, with growing concerns over new variants that could potentially spread to other parts of the world,” co-host Hoda Kotb warned early on the broadcast. Minutes later, correspondent Keir Simmons reported:
From tomorrow, most travel between the U.S. and India will be banned. There are exemptions for United States citizens. But India, a country of more than a billion people, is now battling new variants and the worst surge in coronavirus cases in the world.
By not uttering Biden’s name, Simmons didn’t have to discuss the President’s blatant hypocrisy when it came to imposing COVID travel bans – something the Democrat tarred as “xenophobia” when President Trump imposed one against China in early 2020.
Moving on to the next crisis, co-host Savannah Guthrie declared: “And now to that terrible story that’s playing out still just off the southern California coast. It started yesterday when a 40-foot boat broke apart on a reef near San Diego.” She noted that “it’s believed that boat was being used to bring migrants into the U.S.”
In the report that followed, correspondent Miguel Almaguer did directly connect the story to the illegal immigration crisis at the U.S. southern border:
Officials at the scene describe this as one of the worst tragedies they’ve seen in decades....At least four people have died, and this morning, investigators say they are likely all the victims of a human struggling operation....every indication points to a smuggling effort to illegally bring immigrants into the U.S....With the ongoing surge at the southern border, smugglers often try to blend in with commercial traffic at sea. Customs and Border Protection says it saw “more than 90% increase in maritime apprehensions” last year, compared with 2019, and they expect similar numbers for 2021.
However, the role the President and his immigration policies played in the crisis was completely ignored.
In sharp contrast, immediately following a report on the California tragedy, CBS This Morning turned to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and pressed him on what the administration was doing to address the dire situation along the border.
The third top story on the Today show was about Afghanistan, with Kotb telling viewers: “Also this morning, there are new security concerns in Afghanistan after the U.S. formally launched its final withdrawal of troops from the region over the weekend, beginning the end of America’s longest war.”
Reporting live from Kabul, chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel sounded the alarm: “All U.S. troops are supposed to be out of this country by September 11th, but here in Kabul, I can tell you there are deep concerns that the withdrawal of American forces could lead to a civil war or even the return of the Taliban, which would be disastrous for women.” Wrapping up the segment, he emphasized: “As the U.S. withdrawal is underway, the Taliban has been making rapid advances and already operates openly in much of the countryside.”
Stunningly, the man ordering the withdrawal of all U.S. troops – President Biden – was never referenced.
Even ABC’s Good Morning America wasn’t shy in pointing out that the expected instability in the country would be occurring in the wake of Biden’s decision.
The goal of NBC here is to report bad news without giving any indication that President Biden is involved in any way or could do anything to address the crises. It’s a dramatic flip from how they covered Trump, who the media eagerly blamed for everything under the sun.
