Rick Stengel was being facetious . . . right? Then again, given the authoritarian proclivities of the left, who knows? On Nicolle Wallace's MSNBC show this afternoon, Stengel — the former Time editor turned Obama aide turned MSNBC analyst — appeared on Thursday's Deadline White House and said:
"Voters should be forced to listen to an entire Trump press conference because then I think it’s impossible to vote for him."
Stengel couldn't possibly have been serious about Americans being "forced" to listen to a Trump presser . . . could he?

4:11 pm ETRICK STENGEL: I heard John [Heilemann] earlier say he's not going to express how appalled he was, because he's done it so often. But I'm going to express how appalled I was by it. And I couldn't help but think, these senators sitting in the room and listening to him rail on like this. And by the way, people, voters should be forced to listen to an entire Trump press conference because then I think it’s impossible to vote for him. But they've got to be sitting there and thinking: what a poor excuse for a president, what a poor excuse for a man, what a poor excuse for a human being. And I voted to acquit him."
Stengel's imperious proposal came in the context of his comments on President Trump's remarks today on his impeachment and acquittal. And let's remember, before the door revolved and spit Stengel into the Obama administration, he was once in charge of Time, which, long ago, was an influential magazine.
