At the announcement that the media and Hollywood’s favorite candidate Kamala Harris had told her staff she was dropping out of the 2020 presidential race Tuesday, many cable news analysts expressed dismay. Yet MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle found a glimmer of hope in the whole situation: Now the former California attorney general would be free to prosecute President Trump!
NBC News correspondent Vaughn Hillyard spoke with hosts Stephanie Ruhle and Ali Velshi on MSNBC shortly after the news broke, about how “surprised” they were at Harris dropping out, while analyzing why she polled poorly in the latest polls.
But Ruhle was excited to see Harris join the Democrat impeachment brigade in the Senate, as she fondly recounted how “powerful” and “astute” the former prosecutor was at grilling conservatives like Justice Brett Kavanaugh:
As a member of the Senate, she is considered very powerful, Democratic legislator, but also a litigator. A stand out moment during the Kavanaugh hearings, was Kamala Harris, as maybe the most astute, or one of the most astute, those who were questioning him. What will her time line be now because while we're two months away from the Iowa caucuses, we're in the throes of the impeachment inquiry and it has not reached the Senate phase and she is going to have a lot more time to focus!
Hillyard agreed emphatically: “Exactly That is really what the conversation was. Once, if the House does in fact, impeach the President, then it would go into trial into the Senate...Would Kamala Harris even be able to campaign substantially in Iowa because of the amount of time she would have to allot to being up on Capitol Hill?”
Now, she doesn’t have to make that choice, Hillyard eagerly noted, before hyping voters who found her “best moments” were when she was taking down conservatives:
"You talk to voters, Her best moments were those moments. Whether it be with Brett Kavanaugh or Attorney General William Barr. Those were her best moments where she was pinpointed and was able to--it became her campaign mantra to prosecute the case," he touted.
Hillyard concluded his report gushing this would be Harris’ “chance” to “prosecute” the case against Trump: “This is going to be her chance up on Capitol Hill if in fact the House does impeach President Trump-- is to prosecute the case against the President there up on Capitol Hill.”
Not that long ago, Ruhle suggested Harris's problem wasn't that she was too liberal, but that people were too racist to vote for her.
