Were you able to sit through all seven episodes of Showtime's "The Loudest Voice" about Roger Ailes without falling asleep? Well, good news! This December a movie will be released on the exact same subject called "Bombshell." Not only will it cover the same ground again, but we can be pretty sure that it will repeat the slam on Fox News for daring to not fall in line with the strictly liberal agenda that has been tightly embraced by much of the rest of the media.
One bit of good news is that you don't have to wait for its release date of December 20 to be bored by this film because a "Bombshell" trailer has been uploaded to the internet to give you a sneak preview on how utterly dull it promises to be. Now take a look at the trailer and watch as three blonde women enter an elevator as they suspensefully do...nothing.
This movie promises to be a big money loser because it has an all star cast consisting of Nicole Kidman, Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, and John Lithgow as Russell Crowe...I mean Roger Ailes. Since these stars don't come cheap, it just adds to the amount of money "Bombshell" seems destined to lose, especially since anybody that has an interest in Roger Ailes already had way more than their fill with the ennui-inducing Showtime series.
Vanity Fair on Wednesday, revealed some details on what could be a cure for insomnia.
Get ready for another look at the downfall of Roger Ailes and the scandal it created for Fox News. Earlier this year, Showtime’s limited series The Loudest Voice—based on Vanity Fair special correspondent Gabriel Sherman’s 2014 book The Loudest Voice in the Room—offered a dramatized look at the rise and fall of Ailes and an inside glimpse into the 2016 sexual harassment lawsuit Gretchen Carlson filed against her former boss, and the tumult that followed. (Ailes eventually stepped down amid multiple sexual misconduct claims; he denied all accusations of sexual misconduct.) Now, Jay Roach will offer a cinematic interpretation with Bombshell, which stars John Lithgow as Ailes, Nicole Kidman as Gretchen Carlson, Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, and Margot Robbie as a fictional Fox News associate producer named Kayla Pospisil. Until Wednesday, the film’s title was unknown—and now it’s got not only a title, but an enticingly tense trailer to boot.
Yeah, so tense it is up there at water evaporation or paint drying levels.
So why all this media fascination with Roger Ailes? Perhaps it is not so much him they are interested in but an urge to slam Fox News for not being an ideological carbon copy of the liberal networks. In any event, the producers of Bombshell will have to work mightily to exceed the boredom generated by the Showtime series. Several reviews of The Loudest Voice reveal the great challenge facing them such as this Cleveland Plain Dealer review:
So the first episode charts how Ailes was recruited by media mogul Rupert Murdoch (played by Simon McBurney) to launch Fox News. Artlessly moving from scene to scene with no sense of cohesion or consistency, the miniseries makes a lackluster attempt to examine how his priorities were changed by the 9/11 attacks and the election of Barack Obama.
Even the liberal New Republic was much less than impressed by the series:
It’s truly amazing how Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller are made to look like the Aileses, or at least anything other than themselves. But they are more caricatures than characters, more stereotypes than people.
So what's next? "Roger Ailes, The Musical," which would promise to be every bit as boring as the TV series and the movie because it also wouldn't be able to resist harping on the worn theme of Fox News Bad?
