Google’s reported election manipulation may have already resulted in unforeseen consequences. President Donald Trump is ready to fight back.
A tweet from the president’s account expressed anger at the alleged actions of Google in the 2016 election. Trump recalled a visit from Google in the Oval Office, when CEO Sundar Pichai “didn’t help Crooked Hillary over me in the 2016 election.” The president was willing to believe Pichai until he watched former Google engineer Kevin Cernekee say that Google was preparing to “make sure Trump loses in 2020.”
The president tweeted that this was “all very illegal. We are watching Google very closely.”
Cernekee appeared on Fox Business on August 6 and said that Google was “constantly looking for ways to manipulate the electoral process.” But allegedly the conspiracies at Google went much deeper, down to employees discussing whether or not to turn off the president’s phone remotely and disabling his staffers’ email accounts.
Trump wrote that “Lou Dobbs stated that this is a fraud on the American public. Peter Schweizer stated with certainty that they suppressed negative stories on Hillary Clinton, and boosted negative stories on Donald Trump.”
In a testimony given to the Senate Judiciary Committee, researcher and academic Dr. Robert Epstein stated that Google has the power to influence 15 million votes in the 2020 election. Epstein told Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) that Google had with certainty influenced at least 2.6 million votes in 2016.
Of course, the liberal media discredited Trump’s tweets as soon as they were posted, saying that he did not “provide evidence.” Google gave a statement to The Washington Post downplaying and denying Cernekee’s accusations. The company said, “The statements made by this disgruntled former employee are absolutely false. We go to great lengths to build our products and enforce our policies in ways that don’t take political leanings into account. Distorting results for political purposes would harm our business and go against our mission of providing helpful content to all of our users.”
While bringing attention to Google’s political machinations, Trump has also given a voice to those who suffer from censorship on these major tech platforms. The White House announced in May a system that allows users who have been suspended, banned, or reported for political bias to appeal.
