On Sunday's Up with David Gura on MSNBC, during a discussion of the possibility of impeaching President Donald Trump, NPR's Maria Hinojosa suggested that he be impeached for separating illegal immigrant families and putting children in "cages," characterizing it as an "abuse of power," even though she has herself admitted that the Obama administration did similar things. In fact, she did so more than once.
At 9:22 a.m. Eastern, Hinojosa began her analysis:
So impeachment is about the abuse of power, right? And I agree with you: I think that a lot of people just thnk impeachment, all of a sudden he's going to be removed. No, it's a process, right? But my question is: Again, sorry to go back to this, but sometimes I have to continue to say this, but is it an abuse of power to take babis and putting them into cages?
She continued:
Is it an abuse of power? Is that an impeachable offense? In other words, we're talking about impeachment in this one small construct, but actually what this President has done -- if we look, from his own words -- has been a continual abuse of power. So, for me, I understand the difficulties of the political conversation, but, you know, again, I became a citizen, right? I had to lift up my -- swear to the oath. So I'm like: Do your job, members of Congress. This is your job.
The NPR correspondent added: "I know it's scary -- we don't know what's gping to happen. Well, that's what it looks like to live in a democracy. Well, let's try and keep it a democracy, so do your job and do your accountability."
It would have been worthwhile to ask her if President Barack Obama also deserved impeachment over his treatment of the illegal immigration problem.
