After all three broadcast networks on Monday ignored the latest anti-Semitic comments from left-wing Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, on Tuesday, CBS This Morning at least managed to offer 30 seconds of air time to the scandal. The broadcast highlighted how Omar’s repeated offensive remarks have become such a problem for Democrats that House leadership has scheduled a vote on a resolution to condemn anti-Semitism.
“Politico reports House Democrats will take floor action tomorrow to confront Representative Ilhan OMAR about her latest controversial remarks about Israel,” This Morning co-host Bianna Golodryga informed viewers during a news brief at the end of the 7:00 a.m. ET hour. The anchor further explained: “Omar is being accused of anti-Semitism after an event last week. The freshman Democrat from Minnesota made a reference to ‘political influence in this country that says it is okay for people to push for allegiance to a foreign country.’”
“Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other senior Democrats have drafted a resolution to condemn anti-Semitism,” Golodryga noted as she wrapped up the quick report.
Omar has been embroiled in multiple controversies swirling around a string of anti-Semitic comments, from a 2012 tweet in which she called Israel “evil” to a February tweet in which she suggested politicians supporting Israel were being bought off with campaign donations.
On Monday, even a Washington Post op/ed argued that “Ilhan Omar is the Steve King of the left,” referring to recent offensive comments from the Republican Iowa Congressman about white supremacy. Columnist Henry Olsen advised Democrats:
Rep. Ilhan Omar has, yet again, angered many House Democrats and Jewish groups by making anti-Semitic comments over the weekend. Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the rest of the leadership need to realize that Omar (D-Minn.) has become their party’s version of Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa). They must do what Republicans recently did to King: remove Omar from her seat on all House committees.
The media have been slow to cover Omar’s scandals and have even taken jabs at Republicans when they actually reported on the topic. As her incendiary rhetoric has become an ongoing political problem for Democrats, it’s still like pulling teeth to get the networks to revisit the story.
