CNN Analyst Accuses David Webb of Having ‘White Privilege,’ He’s Black

We’ve all heard the Boy Scouts motto: “Be prepared.” Unfortunately, CNN legal analyst Areva Martin didn’t have that in mind when she was a guest on David Webb’s Sirius XM radio show on Tuesday, when she accused the host of benefiting from “white privilege,” according to Mediaite's Pardes Saleh.

When Webb asked why she said that, his guest replied that he has the privilege of doing things “that people of color” can’t do. The host responded by telling Martin that she “should’ve been better prepped. I’m black.” Ouch.

The exchange came as part of a discussion about what qualifies some people for certain jobs over others, when Webb noted:

Shouldn’t their requirement, their primary requirement, regardless of ethnicity, regardless of net worth, be that they are capable of covering politics? For instance, if you’re going to cover political campaigns, sports may not be the most qualified background.

“I’ve chosen across different parts of the media world, done the work so that I’m qualified to be in each one,” he added. “I never considered my color the issue. I considered my qualifications the issue.”

“Well then,” Martin responded, “that’s a whole ‘nother long conversation about white privilege, the things that you have the privilege of doing that people of color don’t.”

Obviously surprised by the remark, Webb asked: “How do I have the privilege of white privilege?”

“David,” she added, “by virtue of being a white male, you have white privilege.”

“Areva, I hate to break it to you, but you should have been better prepped,” Webb stated. “I’m black.”

The radio host then explained his dismay about “the falsehood” in that exchange: “Your people, obviously, or you didn’t look.”

“You’re talking to a black man who started out in rock radio in Boston, who crossed the paths into hip-hop, rebuilding one of the greatest black stations in America,” he stated.

Webb also noted that he “went on to work for Fox News, where I’m told apparently blacks aren’t supposed to work, but yet you come with this assumption and you go to white privilege.”

“That’s actually insulting!” he added.

“It is,” Martin quickly responded. “I apologize because my people gave me wrong information.”

“Privilege is one thing,” he stated before attributing his success to other aspects, like the economy and various social factors, but not necessarily determined by color of skin.

The exchange also caught the attention of our friendds at The Right Scoop, who asserted that the discussion is “the perfect example of how the left just arbitrarily uses the term ‘white privilege’ to push their race-based agenda.”

“I would have loved to see her face when he told her he was black,” they added. “Man. That would have been priceless!”

As NewsBusters previously reported, this is not the first time Martin stumbled while taking part in a live on-air discussion.

In July of 2017, the legal analyst compared convicted felon O. J. Simpson to U.S. Senator John McCain. Then during September of 2018, Martin used CNN’s coverage of Bill Cosby’s fall from grace to invoke then-Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh.
