Alisyn Camerota: "diversity" scold . . .
Just what does it take to make diversity bean-counter [see screencap] Camerota happy? Because a record 102 women in the newly-installed House of Representatives is clearly insufficient. Opening CNN's New Day this morning, Camerota carped:
"102 women will now serve in the House. If it really reflected the United States, it'd be twice that many. Not to be a wet blanket this morning, okay? But, baby steps."
Oh, baby! So is that Camerota's standard for sufficient diversity: that there be an equal percentage of women and men in every profession? If so, stand by for CNN specials on the diversity scandal in nursing, where only 9% are males. Not to mention the absolute outrage that among preschool and kindergarten teachers, only a measly 2.3% are men! J'accuse!
Did it ever occur to Camerota that unequal proportions of men and women in various professions might reflect differing personal choices, rather than discrimination rearing its ugly head?
And of course, like all good liberals, Camerota's definition of "diversity" is based on gender, skin color, and sexual preference, rather than intellectual diversity.
Here's a suggestion for another CNN diversity special: the truly appalling lack of political diversity in academia, where the overwhelming proportion of professors in the humanities are liberals.
Some years ago, for example, I worked with the Ithaca College Republicans on a study of the political affiliation of the college's faculty members. We found, among other things, that there was not a single registered Republican in the department of political science! Confronted with this fact, the department chair sneered: "oh, we have great diversity: from liberals to Marxists."

ALISYN CAMEROTA: So it is a historic day. Just to put up in a graphic, exactly of the diversity changes for this new Congress. Forty new women, 20 new veterans, 10 new Hispanic or Latino Members, nine new black Members, three new LGBTQ Members.
A.B. [Stoddard], 102 women will now serve in the House. If it really reflected the United States, it'd be twice that many. Not to be a wet blanket this morning, okay? But, baby steps.
