Will Chuck Todd be given a stern talking to by NBC for straying from the official liberal media line, which is that the pipe bombs were the work of a Republican/conservative?
On Thursday's MTP Daily, Todd floated a novel theory:
"I have this fear that it could be some Russian operation, too, designed to do what's happening now. More of this -- so in some ways we should not rule out -- it is dividing us."
But wait a second: isn't it also the media's line that the Russians are colluding to help President Trump? If so, why would they undertake an operation that, at least on its face, could hurt Trump's congressional majorities?
It's worth nothing that Todd was not alone in suggesting that this could be something other than a Republican plot.
Just earlier, Commentary editor John Podhoretz raised the possibility that the bombs were a "false flag" operation. He cited the case of the anthrax mailings, which had originally been thought to be an al Qaeda-type operation. Podhoretz pointed out that the FBI ultimately concluded that the perpetrator was a guy obsessed with a woman, eventually killing himself in a drug overdose.
