In the novel 1984, readers are treated to what George Orwell thought citizenship would look like in a post-truth era: Emotion is valued over truth, and the proletariat basks in enormous amounts of media meant to pander to and subdue them.
In keeping with that tradition, Billboard reported that Alicia Keys, R&B star Erykah Badu, R.E.M. singer Mike Stipe, and punk musician Amanda Palmer will all headline an Oct. 4 concert at the Supreme Court that will have one goal: ensuring that Brett Kavanaugh is not confirmed to the nation’s highest court. The concert’s publicity site urges “every child, woman, and man” to “come together in concert to change the fate of our nation.”
The hashtag #BraveryIsContagious, is being used to promote the concert. Witch-hunting has also been proven contagious, but never mind.
More chilling, though, is what is going on behind the scenes. Party Majority PAC, which is credited on the event’s website, was launched by former aides to Bill and Hillary Clinton and currently has in its ranks Lazar Palnick, whose family are personal friends of the Clintons. Given Bill Clinton’s multiple allegations of sexual assault, Party Majority’s activism at this time seems highly suspect.
The media will not make light of the hypocrisy going on here.
