CW strikes again to defeat the bigots and the homophobes. After just recently casting transgender activist Nicole Maines as a transgender superhero, the broadcasting company has made another statement by casting openly lesbian Ruby Rose as Batwoman.
Rose’s character will be introduced in CW’s DC crossover event this winter, but then will be featured in her own stand-alone series which is currently in development. The official logline of the show describes Batwoman as “an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.”
Originally introduced as Batman’s love interest back in 1956, Batwoman was officially declared a lesbian in 2006, and now Hollywood is all aglow at the prospects of the series which, as Deadline puts it, presents “the opportunity to break new ground,” seeing that “Batwoman will become the first gay lead character — male or female — of a live-action superhero series.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, “the network made it a priority to cast an openly gay actress to take on the role,” and now as part of the “authentic casting” craze which has overtaken the industry, Hollywood and the left couldn’t be happier about Ruby Rose who herself identifies as gender-fluid.
Deadline called it, “one of the biggest casting coups for the CW.” The Hollywood Reporter stated excitedly that “The CW's superhero stable now includes an out lesbian superhero played by a lesbian actress as well as a trans actress playing a trans superhero.” And of course twitter was all over the news with celebrities like Perez Hilton calling it “a gigantic for [the queer] community.”
“The CW has found its Batwoman!” exclaimed Entertainment Weekly … or in other words, they found another way to parade the LGBTQ agenda.
